the box im currently running is a cheapie BB box that i bought with the rest of my system. Its fully sealed and thumps pretty decent but im wondering about switching to a ported box. Its my daily driver and not used for competitions. Obviously, the bass is tight and clean but im lookin for a lil more shake for lack of better word, without sacrificing too much SQ. Any input would be appreciated. here is what im running
Alpine DEh 9800 (??) HU
2 12" Kicker CompVR's (08 models)
2 1 Farad Rockford Caps
2 Alpine MRP-M650 amps
Again i'm running about 1200 watts RMS i believe and would like to hear if switchin to ported will benfit my system better than sealed. Thanks

Toss the cap, go ported, tune to 35 hertz, big 3, upgrade front battery, smile.
simple enough lol. thank you. Please correct me if im wrong but i have heard that it is easier to blow ported subs than if they are sealed. that sound about right?

yep. a ported box could allow oyu to bow a subwoofer alot easier than a ported. reason being is from people not knowing what they are doing. as in if you tune a box to around 40 hz playing a 25 hz tone will cause overexcursion and youll more than likely rip your spider or put too big of a gap between the motor and the voice coil causing a short. Thats what ive read anyways. so make sure you set your Subsonic filter correctly. i like to keep mine at 28 hz because its either that or no subsonic on the rockford. lol
also not sure the reasons why but ive read that a ported enclosure make the sub be able to handle less power. i would have thought that the other way because the port is a way of cooling the sub so i would have thought that since your cooling the sub down it could handle more. but not according to the good ole internet.
as for the box. kicker typically has predesigned sub boxes so i would start there.

Need some input on my box
That's what she said.
Those MRP-M amps have a fixed subsonic filter at 25Hz IIRC, so you don't have TOO much to worry about.
That @!#$ about ported boxes "not being able to" handle low amounts of power is bogus. They sound different in the midbass range because they often don't have as much of a peak as sealed boxes do.
thanks guys. one more quick question. I searched on here for some info on how to tune your box but didn't come up with anything. Are there any decent sites that explain exactly how to tune a sub box?? I would like to learn how to do the tuning myself but haven't been able to find the info. Thanks again

Tuning a box, I'll let Anton answer that one. He's chock full of bad info.
