it was a competition, why would you shoot yourself in the foot by using music.
I placed HIGHER every time using BREAKDOWN by Mariah Carey over a Sweep from Bass Mekenik
Music worked for me everytime.
The tone in that song is the fq of a N-Body and seems to work great for J-bodies too.
i didnt use a sweep haha i used a 40 hz tone for about 5 seconds. i just bought an orion 2500d and im tryin to get some wire to throw that bitch in but now im headunitless :/

yeah a sweep isnt the best to use either, if you start to soon you can suck allot of the energy out of your batteries before you hit your best frequency. going with single tones is the best. just have to learn what freuencies are the best for your system. use a sweep on an rta to get a graph and see at what frequency your system is peaking at, and then during spl i'll generally start a couple frequencies lower and higher, ex. if my peak is at 55hz i'll usually use test tones 50hz-60hz only.

I did that too, Burping it at 42hz was always the highest. Also it showed that was the fq for the Grand Am I use to use. However, using Breakdown always gave me more on my score, even If I qualified with 148 on a Tone, I would always hit atleast a 149 on Breakdown. Also, it was a gradual increase as the song played. It was wierd but true. Watching old 8mm tapes of those events is sooo funny to me. You can hear the song and tell what it is from the bass notes. Great song BTW
i forgot what you were usin for equipment but what were you using to hit the 149?

that;s totally bizarre, id be interested in finding out what frequency that tone is in the song to see where it matched up with the 42hz tone. wonder if though possibly that frequency in the song is just boosted to give you a bit extra volume maybe. one of the rearsons they only use competition cd's in like the dbdrags and such was so they couldnt use doctored cd's. intresting though.

Back then, it was in my 1995 Grand Am.
I had 4 JL AUDIO 10W3D4s in a Sealed box (before I knew about slot ports)
I had 1 PC2150 (grey) on a par and a PC2600 (chrome) on the other pair.
So 1,200 watts rms of Clean Precision Power and 4 10's in a sealed box. It was intense for some 10" subs.
After realizing the potential of the Slot ported enclosures, I used 1 500/1s and 2 10W7s in my Blue cav and Hit 149.8db on an AudioControl mic back in 2003
I only hit 143.7 or somethign like that on the Term Lab setup with the W7 10s
well updates and more updates.. i ended up getting the orion 2500d and i threw the sub in a different box which was tuned way too high (55) well i came out with a 142.9 yuck. well i went to the previous box but made it smaller (2 cubic feet) and tuned to around 42 and received a score of 144.3
getting closer to the 145 at the windshield i want.
