Anyone ever really dabble with this besides me haha. I'm running 20" per cube in my box right now(tuned to 34hz) and it sounds great. I've seen lots of port area used in fart boxes but not so much in daily applications. Is there a reason why, AKA what did I do wrong?

OH NO here we go again............
what size subs and what are they before i sound like an idiot? (doesnt take much to do)
but i like a little much of port area. that way you know you have zero turbulance in your port, which creates a more even flow and better sound. thats all ill say untill i know more info.
and before we say whether theres anything wrong or not what do YOU think is wrong? is there any problems other than it sounding great? Does it not output the sound you wanted?

I know this is laughable but it's a Jensen XS1010, it has achieved more than the output I expected. I was just wondering if I was the only one that likes a little more port area. It just seems that almost everybody uses 12-16".

lol well...........
your using way too much port area! lol but its ok. at 4mm of xmax you should only be using around 10 inches of port..... but we dont know all the info how many cuft is the box and what are ALL the dimensions of the box?
i was talking more of a high performace sub needing more port area. not a sub thats designed for a sealed box...
in my opinion a port is to help cool and also to hit certain frequencies better. so every sub is different. i honestly dont think you can put a general rule of 12-16 square inches of port and call it a day. if the sub can move more air LET IT. so like a sub that has an xmax of 15 compared to an xmax of 28, i dont think they should be able to use the same amount of port area.the 28 would obviously be able to push more air so again why not let it do it. i know the more velocity the more spl some people say but i disagree. (gaining velocity from smaller port area) i think that the more velocity equals more turbulance and more turbulance equals LESS spl.
Start the arquing! lol

The box is 1.75 after port displacement and before sub displacement. 4mm xmax eh?

(old box) and no it's not bottoming out, just a lot of mech noise.

not bad not bad, altho it surpised me with the amount of excursion the sub was doing that it only moved ur mirrors and interior so insignificantly. My exiles do much less as far as moving, but i cant see out my mirrors when a big note hits lol

J/K LOL

It's a 10" Jensen, 150rms. I don't expect my mirrors to be falling off haha.

Make your port area smaller. If you think it sounds good now, wait till you make it smaller. Too much port is a bad thing. One, you could risk the sub bottoming out, and you don't want to waste 20 bucks on a new sub. Two, even though it does lessen impedence rise, it still falls back onto #1. Three, it'll make the frequencies above and below your tune a little more distinct instead of a quick drop-off.
Will I lose any output at all? Thanks for the advice. The sub is only temporary anyway though.

You'll probably GAIN output if anything.
Thanks man. I'll just sell this enclosure.

haha i dont expect the mirrors to be falling off, it just surprised me how little it did when it was moving a godforsaken amount lol
It was also in a sealed box when that video was taken. The sub doesn't move that much in the ported box, but it's a hell of a lot louder/cleaner.
