In-Dash DVD Player not flush with Dashboard
Thursday, July 23, 2009 1:25 PM
I have a Dual XDVD8181 In-Dash DVD Player for my 2003 Cavalier. I installed it myself which was suprisingly easier than I thought. Anyways, the unit itself is embedded too far into the dash area and I can't fit the finishing touch din ring on top of it. So now, it just has the player without the final ring, and it shows some of the metal casing behind it and is unattractive. Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem and how they fixed it. I already took my dash apart 2 times and wouldn't like to do it again, because it seems I misplace screws easily. Any help would be fantastic.

most of us with deep units have cut out some of the back plastic to get the deeper. careful not to cut thru anything important, i had to take a heatgun on my back dash to gain me some room around the duct venting area behing the first piece of plastic i remvoed.

I think his problem is the other way around and sits too far in.

I would say try and use some tyoe of shim to pull it out some.
some pics would be usefull.

of how it sits with the dash on, and how the bracket is.

maybe you can get it to sit farther in and make a custom cover for it.
just a thought.

but pics will help

I have my head bolted to my mounting kit through teh side and on the kit theres a groove. SO I can adjust the depth at which it sits. So depending on your kit you might be able to adjust that. Yes pics will definitely help.

ha ha, havnt heard of anyone having an issue of it to deep so i just read it as sticking out. check your mounting bracket as sundown stated, or maybe just drill new holes int it further up or back to get it located where you want it. or could just make your own mounting brackets like idid on mine

Here are some pics.

The first few are showing you how it is mounted and it's not flush. That part doesn't bother me, it's the metal casing that sticks out and makes it look ugly. The second half is showing you the DVD Player mounting and what I want to put on it. Thanks

Let me know what I can do without tearing apart the dash again. The problem is that the dvd player needs to be out more so I can put that sleeve on. And, screwing in the screws to mount it to the dash itself is what is making it so close to the dash. I've tried unscrewing those screws a little so it's not all the way in, but it didn't work out because the dvd player was wobbly and stuff. Thanks!

Trim the ring. That's about all you can do.

looking at those pics it looks like what i origonally said, that something behind the unit is stopping it from going all the way back, find out whats behind it, remove it, push the unit all the way in and the trim ring should fit on.
