After a $100 to buy a SunPro 5" ST Tach, I was able to use the control board out of it to drive the Sunfire's original Tach motor. The tach works, the Shift light in the Sunfire Instrument Cluster works off of it, as do the Shift Light setting buttons. The tach is accurate within 25 RPM. You have to use the 8 cyl. setting due to the radial angle differences. I hid the control board inside the bottom of the Radio / Temp Center. Both buttons stick out the bottom tucked back just enough to look clean. I'm not an electronics expert by any means, but this was another step for me to put more "Sleeper Mode" into my 3800SC Sunfire and clean up the Steering Column.
