not all speakers work ....?
Saturday, October 03, 2009 2:03 PM

I have 97 Gmc jimmy n wife have 96 pontiac bonneveville. In gmc only right side plays. I have tried fadre and balance. All speakers connected. In pontiac. only front door speakers play. Is this a common gm problem? Neither have any new componets. All stock. Have removed both radio's and checked harness. I plan to upgrade both. Unless i found out why this is. will have to wait till i have time to install new wires throughout and add system componets.. Plz if anyone has had this problem....

How loud do you listen to your music? Probably just blew them. The older a speaker, the easier it is to blow it. 12 and 13 years could easily do the trick.

i am not 100% sure if those cars have stock amplifiers they would usually be mounted in the trunk or under the passenger seat but that may be the problem. Also i have heard of many cars doing this and usually its a different problem every time. if there is no stock amplifier get a ohm/voltage meter and unhook the radio and grab the wiring harness and check for continuity between the speaker wires there should be. if not then the wires are broke some where between the radio and the speaker.

Pull the speakers out and look at them. Push the cone in slightly. If you hear a crunchy noise your speaker is blown. If theyre fine, take a DMM set it to AC voltage. Put the probes to the pos and negs on the speaker. Turn the music on and see if youre getting voltage. If not you have a break somewhere in your speaker wire.

you all make me sound so stupid. lol I guess i should have explained little better. No factory amp. I have unhooked the speakers and put new one in there place. Still no sound. I am guessing from harness on back somewere is damaged or shorting out. May just run new speaker wires from harness out little time consuming but one sure way to fix. thankz for input on me getiing output. Ty

Alright both vehicles now have new decks. I have same problem. not even a buzz out of speakers. The bonneville only front ones play well one is starting to fade out. The gmc i only have one speaker working front right. I checked wires in door jambs no notice able kinks or breaks. I hooked up a spare speaker to factory locations that were not working and still no sound. I know with the age and everything kinda hard to say. gonna try the dmm next. What do i set the dial on? I am not really trying to rewire both thses vehicles. just on wouldn't be so bad.
