Has anyone used the 82-3300 adapter from Metra to replace their 4x6 front speakers with 6.5 ones? I want to put some RF 6.5 speakers in the front which are 2.75" deep and was wondering if they would fit okay?
Thanks in advance.
that's a REALLY deep speaker to put in. The plastic adapters aren't going to cut it. You would want to try half inch, or 3/4 inch baffles made out of something like MDF. I don't remember the exact depth until you hit the window track, or how far you can space them out without hitting the door panel, but 2.75 is deep.

Lol good luck. 3/4 won't cut it either I don't think. I have a set of Cadence CWM-6KIT's which are I think 3"?
Just get out the jigsaw, use the stock for mockup, and go crazy.

No actually... Don't just get out a jigsaw and go nuts... there are clean, and proper ways it can be done.
Zach, don't give that kind of advice in here please.

Are you completely sold on RF only? What kind of power will be going to them(what amp are you using)? And what are you looking for out of your speakers?

Also, for the price of those second ones you just posted, you could get some very nice components.

I am completely sold on RF cause every thing else in my system is RF, unless you can recommend something cheaper that might actually be better? I can get the RF's on ebay for $90.00 a set.
$90.0 per set? I can't think off hand of anything in that price range. I noticed the second set you linked was $250. In THAT price range, I could get you speakers that are worlds ahead of those RF's. But for $90, I doubt it. The Cadence CWM-6Kit components were the best in the 80-100 range for a while, but I'm noticing more and more components in that price range that are sounding pretty darn good! But mounting depth in a J body is fairly limited if you want the woofers to be in the door without interfering with the window, but also being behind the stock door panel. 2.17 is pretty darn good. Some half inch baffles I KNOW will work for those without hitting the door panel or window.
I know that Rainbows SLC Kick components are in the 200-300 range and have a 2.5" mounting depth on the woofers. I would suggest those over almost anything else in the price range. I don't think there is a set of speakers in that range that sounds as good with that shallow of a depth. Also, not quite rainbows, but look to see what you find for pricing on Polk MM6 components. They are damn good sounding speakers for their price as well.
here is one link to the Polks I mentioned, for some specs on them:

So what amp are you powering your front speakers with?

I am using a RF Prime R150-2. It pushes out a total of 200 watts so each of my speakers are getting about 50 watts rms. I have 2 other 6.5 in the rear.
Basically. You have have an inch and a half from glass to the metal. So add a 3/4 inch baffle that and youre at 2.25 inch MAX speaker depth. Though I did have some issues trying to get a 3/4 inch baffle behind the door panel in my Sunfire but The door panels are different in Cavs.
50 watts RMS should be decent for some components. but honestly, to get the full potential, out of any decent comp set, you want at least twice that. But at any rate, if the RF comps work for your budget and needs, and you want to brand match, I can't match $90 and get better stuff.

The F\Sunfire door panel that has the tweeter pod has 3 plastic tabs on it that hit on the baffle. You have to take the nut off. Trim the tabs down and run a little screw into each of them to hold the tweeter pod. Thats what Lanman told me but I just cut some 1/2 inch baffles with some leftover wood and all is good.

Don't know what happened above but Alpine SPR-17C
He's looking at component sets, not coaxial's, though.
