Has anyone ever mounted their tweeters in the door handle panel that pops out when you go to remove the door itself? It seems to have good imaging in that spot. Check out this pic I mocked up for it and let me know what you think?
Might be too far from the woofer.
Where would you recommend then?
how do you know weather or not it has good imaging??? i honestly dont know and im asking for real.

I don't know if it a good spot for image. I'm just trying to find a good spot before I get my hole saw out and make the holes.
I think this is how I'm gonna mount them.
Well you want the tweeter roughly 6 inches from the woofer or youre going to run into delay issues.
I don't get that, I see so many great systems with the tweeters mounted far from the mid like in the a-pillars and such.
Maybe theyre running delay units. Idk for sure because Ive never mounted tweeters that far out but thats what Ive always heard.
Well I measured and its gonna be about 10 inches from the mid so hopefully it won't be too bad.

Not entirely true, guy.
12+ inches away your ears MIGHT start noticing, but you would be surprised how little it really effects it with them 12 or less inches away... It's not as huge of a concern as it may seem.

No ones ever said differently so I assumed that was the concensus.
time alignment is your friend
Time alignment is going to do nothing for your tweeter to woofer distance on a passive component set, at all. Nice try though.

id stick my money on the table with bad imaging, first off high frequencies are very path dependant, so first youlle have it pointed right at your door level. next its going to be so much closer to your ears then the right side meanding allot of path length issues, add in the distance from the mid to the tweeter and your just going to have a big mess. you'd have better luck if you wanted them mounted high to go up to the a-pillars. having them farther away from the mid will cause seperation issues. but with proper placement you could gain a higher soundstage, its a tradeoff. some people prefer less seperation and will deal with a lower stage, and some people prefer a higher stage over the sepearation issues. proper alignment and position along with some crossover point changes can help minimise the sound seperation in mid/tweet combos
time alignment could be used if the crossover on the componet set was biampible and you had the capabilities to run it that way. otherwise as jl said it would be worthless.

yeah when I said passive, I meant basic. As in the passive crossover was wired to a single amp. Not even thinking about biampable passives when I wrote that lol.

That's where I mounted my tweets.

Cool CAS, that where I'm going too. How does it sound??

It sound good. Although I have tweeters in all the memphis car audio M class coaxial speakers. Total of 6 tweeters in the car. I plan on installing a couple of amps to power all the speakers. I had subwoofers, but I removed them due to all the weight.

That location is only aobut 1-1.5 inches away from where the door meets with the dash once the door has been closed. I thought it was as far forward without looking too out of place.

6 tweeters, 4 mids, no subs... that sure sounds balanced......................

What you mean by that JL? I'm not trying to win any audio system competiion, its just for my enjoyment. I agree that having no subs leaves the low tones out of the sound picture, but I have yet to find a plausible solution to reduce weight for autocrossing. Unless you have a suggestion to balance the current setup that I have? Im all ears.

In all honesty, I would just get a 10 or 12 inch sub in a sealed box, do the whole amp on back of box deal and remove it each event. Having the low end there is kinda enjoyable when you tune everything. Some people might be surprised how much of their music they are not hearing.

got ya cas. the picture looks deceiving. looks like its allot further back, but realistically even lower and further up would probalby help equalise the pathlengths even more.
as for the sub, i'd say ditch 4 of the tweeters and two mids and add a small 8 in a small sealed box. as far as autocross. have a well balanced car will benefit you more then having a 20lb lighter car so have yoru car balanced. id bet that putting a small box on probalby the passenger side in the trunk would help in balancing your car more and benefit more then 20lbs less weight. just make sure you secure it down.
