Hey guys... trying to find the cheapest route to getting the desired results, could use some help...
I have a 99 z24 that i just bought.. it has what appears to be factory installed DEI remote start and GM keyless entry... both on separate fobs... blah..
Now the remote start works great, the keyless entry does not... even with a new battery.. its really hit or miss... plus its held together with tape, thats always a good sign.. lol
I want my keyless entry to work (all the time) plus i would love to only have one key fob to carry around... Is there any reliable "universal remote" that can learn off my 2 systems? i know they make remote duplicators (at least cheaply in asia) but am insure if it would work with the factory system or only after-market setups..
Your remote start should have the ability to do the unlock you just might have to wire it up. Which isnt very hard to do in a car with factory power locks as opposed to mine which is a manual lock car with power locks added. Im sure someone here could hook you up with a wiring diagram and some advice.
yeah.. the remote start fob is pretty limited... doesnt have any buttons for lock/unlock... simple 2 button job (hold both to start)
My buddy told me to just buy another remote start system from bestbuy that includes the lock buttons.. but thats like $150+
Just seems like an after-market universal remote solution would be a huge seller and im shocked they arent readily available (if those duplicators work at all).. is it not just a simple RF transmitter/receiver? why cant you mix and match remotes? hmmm... lol
Um, some remote starts have a negative out to start on them, meaning you could hook up the lock button so if you hit it twice, it remote starts. Omega has this feature, however I like the ones that have the lock/unlock, trunk, and remote start all in one.
Your car may do 13 sec @ 103 mph, but my car does 146db @ 35 hz.
looking at a new system with full remote... just kinda pisses me off that i'd need to spend $150 for a stupid issue like a remote...
I really dont understand why you are locked to one remote for every system and why nobody has made a learning universal remote.. for all the people that lose there remote and are forced to spend upwards of $100 to replace a $2 transmitter, you'd think this would be a fair sized market...
maybe i should start making them!! lol...

Because a dickhead like me could have one, scan for codes, and I'm off to the races with your car.

you'd need the stock remote (even for those cheaply made duplicators) to program the new one, you cant steal the code from the car (as far as i know anyways.. lol) and remote starts kick off the second you hit the brake without a key.. so maybe im just naive, but im not seeing the problem.. lol
how about getting a proper remote thru legitimate channels? seems the only replacements that would work are the exact same as what i have.. cant a GM dealer set up a new proper 4 button fob for me without having to replace the whole system? not mentioning what they'd charge if its even possible...
