well i decided to go with the optidrives 1232d and the hifonics brutus 1600 super d class amp. Hopefully this system will wang for me as lanman likes to call it. any objections?
"No greater love than this that he lay down his life for his friend"....John 15:13
good choice. the 1232d are what i just recently got done installing. they crush.
car audio noob since 1984.
so is the sq ok on those subs, since im hearing the spl is? and what about that amp? is it a good choice?

Hifonics is good stuff but I hear theyre kinda power hungry so you might want to keep an eye on your voltage drop once its installed and upgrade your alternator and battery to feed it properly.
so will this system hit as hard as the 12w7 with the jl 1000/1

Never heard any of the gear in this thread but no one will be able to say for sure what will be louder. Its all in the install.
I am suprized "lanman" hasn't jumped in this thread yet lol, he's usually all over optis...I think optis were the better choice...but I have never been a fan of kicker...
Nice on the hifonics though...I love maxxsonics stuff....I have never used MB quart though...but the autotek amplifiers I used to have weren't bad...the crunch powerzones are a joke, but the ground pounder stuff isn't bad...and the hifonics stuff Ive had I LOVED!

Lanman is out of town with his gf still I think.
well any thoughts on a sealed versus ported for these speakers?

Kicker over Lanzar anything

What an absolutely uneducated response, Matt.... You have never toyed with Lanzar's Optidrive line have you? While they aren't my first recommendation, I will admit their Opti stuff is pretty darn decent. Bringing their name out of the mud a bit. Again, not my favorite, and probably would never recommend them with other things I know better, in their price range. But not trash. And Kicker has this thing where they can't get into the SQ realm at all. Their subs always seem to sound like ass. Sure they have a rep for some of their stuff to be able to get loud, but sound quality they are not. I would recommend a million things over a Kicker sub when anyone even hints that they want decent sound and not just loud noise.
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

i agree with you jlaudio, i have plenty of kickers and they do not sound good at all..i havent tried the optis but i am now because ive heard some good things, of course i weamnted the 12w7 wih the 1000/1v2 but did not want to spend 1000 dollars on a system, so that is why im trying the otpis with the brutus amp, i want spl but i want some sq as well...and i keep hearing that 2 12's are usually better than one.

hey sundown will the ported enclosure still give me that low bass i want..like on the young jeezy ::i put on song::?
"No greater love than this that he lay down his life for his friend"....John 15:13
Ya it will. But out of my experience with that song (that kind of low in general) youre going to have to tune low ,around mid 20hz, which will kill you high response and will make you bass sound flat and funny. Some systems will be able to hit that note on a daily tune but it takes a lot of power and an oversized box.
In general I would say avoid trying to hit lows like that as a goal since thats all that youre going to hit. Tune around 35hz. You wont have as much low end extension but itll sound tons better on all kinds of music not just low rap beats.
The optidrive without a doubt. Kicker subs have always sounded muddy to me, except for the old old old school solobarics, the old round ones. An Opti 1400D would run that sub really well
Your car may do 13 sec @ 103 mph, but my car does 146db @ 35 hz.
so you what you think about the brutus 1600d lanman, especially since i took your idea of going with the optis....sundown i see what you are saying, i will tune at 35hz cause not alot of songs go that low anyway...from what im hearing i may have to upgrade my alternator for this kind of amp and that is funny everyone says it draws alot of voltage but on the site it says that is one of the best things about this amp is the fact that it doesnt draw alot of voltage.....

I messed up on the amps. The Brutus amps are Class D. Some of the other Hifonics amps are Class A/B amps which are more innefficient than Class D amps but they create a more clean sound. But anyways you will need a better electrical system. Search the GM Large Case Alt swap. I did it in my car and its nics. Also look into doing the Big 3 which is stickied at the top of the page.
