Ok, so I decided I would start making my own little build thread up on here for if anyone is wanting to see it lol
I think I have set myself on walling the car with 4 crunch ground pounder 15d2 subs...link below
http://www.crunchusa.net/Crunch_GVP_Subwoofers.html
Lanman before you say it, I know, I should have gone with Optidrives...but, money is kinda tight right now, and from what I have read, these seem decent for the money, $170 shipped for a pair...and considering my friend has hit 151DB with 4 PYLE BLUEWAVE 15s, YES, PYLES! lol, I think I should be around where I am looking to be...I am concerned a bit with SQ, but I guess I'll just have to see how it all goes...this will be my first big system build..so I think I should be decently happy, and if not, hey at least I learned a few things along the way lol
As far as amplifers I am unsure yet, either hifonics or crunch ground pounder amplifiers most likely...
Plans for the enclosure are, 2.75 cubes, 16 3/4" port, which came out to 34.9HZ on the calc. after displacement...
Subs should be on the way here in a few days or so, cant wait! Will be updating if there is any interest...
In all of this though, I do have one question...I was told in a thread before, that when walling the car off, I will need to seal it off from the rest of the car due to destruction waves....my question is, how the hell am I going to do that? lol, I dont think there will be enough room to crawl in through the trunk with the enclosures sitting in there...? Was just wondering, hopefully someone can give an answer to that..

I bet that wasnt on a TL.
Stack the boxes. And build a faceplate in the shape of the interior perimeter of the car and attach that to the front of the boxes and seal the faceplate to the roof and floor with something.
Well, I knew I would have to seal it, but I mean, how am I getting to it? Lol, I dont see me or any of my friends crawling through the trunk and past the boxes to seal it, unless I seal it from the front, but the faceplate will more than likely be wrapped in tweed and I dont want it to show where it is sealed, so it wont look like crap..
"Hondas are like tampons, every pussy has one!!!"
I would say seal it from the front neatly and cover it in the car. Thats the only way I can think of. But I guess if you have the boxes far enough forward you could slide in from the trunk go through the opening and get in from behind. Well I think I could but Im friggin skinny.
But if you cut it tight enough you may not have to use anything to seal it. It may just seal itself tight enough but thats a long shot.
Just be creative.
Another question I had was, there are a few people I have seen on here with like a half wall kind of thing and had 2 more subs in the trunk....wouldn't there be destructive waves there?? If it would help, itd be awesome to shove 2 more in the trunk along with the 4 in the wall...but that sounds like all kinds of a bad idea from what ive heard from alot of people...just wondering..

Its worthless. You can but theres no point. Besides maybe show factor.

agreed, if your doing a wall do a wall and thats it, another sub or two in the trunk is going to be worthless. i wouldn't bother like sealing the front piece i'd just cut that thing to fit as tight as possible and then wrap it. you dont want any cracks showing, u want it to be tight as possible but dont worry about trying to like actually seal up the opening with caulking. that will just make it a hassle when your trying to remove it. just fit it up good and snug with no large gaps.
if you plan on compeing then yeah 151 is a good number, if you don't plan on competing numbers are worthless. worry about making it sound good. though if your building a wall chances are your bass is going to overpower any quality mids and highs anyway.

ok, cool. Any technical reason for it, or some kind of fancy explanation? Not that I dont believe you, just wondering, like learning these things....
The only explantion I thought of is there would be so much crap in the way from the wall anyone, that would wouldnt really hear it pretty much...
I did change my idea AGAIN on sub choice, but its now final because theyre on the way
i decided on running 4 soundstream reference rw-12s. I got them for $130 a pair shipped, and heard nothing but good things about them, while i saw alot of pros and cons for the crunch GPVs...so, in all i think ill be happy with the decition....saw a guy running 4 of them in a single cab S10, 1.7 cubic foot sealed enclosure, and hit 141 DB...which i thought was decent considering the size of the enclosure and it being sealed...ran them off of 4000 watt power acoustik stax amplifiers....
Anyway, subs are supposed to be here by saturday, so.....if I find a way to take pics, i will post pics of them up!

if you have a half wall blocking up most/all sound coming from the trunk, how would adding additional subs in the trunk be worthwhile? the bass from the trunk will have to go through the rear deck, and will almost certainly cause cancellation issues with the subs you have in your half wall. save your money and concentrate on the half-wall (or whatever install you end up going with). you'll save money, time and effort.
if you're going with a half wall, save whatever space you have left in the trunk for amplifiers, batteries, golf clubs, beer etc. the money you save by not putting additional subs in the trunk can be used for said golf clubs, beer, batteries etc.

imagine two kids in the same room singing the same song together. now take one of those kids, stuff him in the closet and have them sing again............ its not going to sound better, the added voice isn't going to have the same volume, what you hear will be muttled and sound off from the reflections and cancealtion that would occur by the time the sound got to your ears. its just a waste of time, space and sound. nice if your just going for show. but for sound it would be worthless.

i did not have a 'wall' persay but i did have a box as big as my beretta's back seat sitting in there with 2 15's....it may as well have been a wall.
it hit 148db with just them.
i added one 12" in a huge bandpass box in the trunk....
it then hit 151.
yes, on the same day, with the same equipment.

Baby jesus just poked in and started crying.
Your car may do 13 sec @ 103 mph, but my car does 146db @ 35 hz.
lol, why is that??
Another thing, I dont know a whole lot about audio, but I do know different sizes/brands of subs are BAD! lol
"Hondas are like tampons, every pussy has one!!!"
I bet I know what your thinking....soundstream, taken over by power acoustik....the subs I have are refurbs. they stopped making the subs I ended up getting back in 2003. They are rated at 600 RMS, 900 peak, but, theyre BIGGER than the audiobahns I had that were rated 1100RMS, 2200 peak....I know, cause audiobahn =cheap, but I really think the soundstreams will out perform the audiobahns, hands down

Sounds like you were getting some cancelling issues with the 15's which is likely to happen when they are in the back seat area and not in a wall. the 12 was helping fill in the cancelation issues you had. because a single 12 added to a pair of 15's should not give you a 3db bump if everything was playing efficently. to gain a 3db boost you'd basically need to either double your speakers or doulbe your power. so for that addition gain you were likely not playing the 15's to their maximum potential.
you have to be really wary of cancelation when you just have a box in the back seat area. back when i was competing in sq i had a single 12 pushed by 100 watts in my mustang. when the box was all the way back near the bumper i would do 130 all day long. then if i pushed the box up so it was sitting on my folded down seats directly behind the driver seats it sounded like someone turned the bass off and i'd hit around 112db. do to cancellation.

So...I have all 4 of my subs now....heres some pics...should be ordering amplifiers before long...planning on running 2 Hifonics 1610Ds
And...one of the soundstreams beside one of the old audiobahns....
"Hondas are like tampons, every pussy has one!!!"
Thanks...theyre not the best, but theyre not bad either I dont think...im not going for all out comp....as long as I can hit mid 140s-low 150s I will be happy

Is the sub sitting crooked or is the basket bent? Cause its got a nasty slope in that picture.
The thing its sitting on is like...wavy as hell so its hard to tell lol

David contacted me about building some boxes for him since I live about 2 hours away and he doesnt have the skills or materials to build boxes according to him.
Heres what I did in Sketch-Up. The box is to scale but the port isnt. I just did them to give David an idea of the layout of the box.
And just what it will look like with a faceplate:
Basic specs:
Its going to be two separate boxes. Both are going to be 40 inches wide by 15 inches tall by 20 inches deep. Each sub with be in its own chamber. Each chamber is going to be 2.1 cubic feet with 30.375 sq in of PA. So its around 15 square inches per cubic foot with a 35 hz tune.
The specs are based off of the manufacturer specs which recommend 2-2.25 cubic feet.
Im going to be doing 45s in the corners and some roundover bit fun on the port since I finally got a set of them. Ill be bracing the box up with 1 in dowel rods. But I wont be doing a double baffle.
Ill be starting next Saturday and Ill post up updates.
Lemme know what you guys think of the design.
lol i was going to comment on the horrible solid modeling techniques, but i figure "WHY?". lol.... (I solid model for a living)
looks like it will be fun, i dont feel like checking any of your numbers, i trust you

Exactly, by saying " I was going to comment on etc etc... " you ARE commenting on it. God you're an idiot. And if you do it for a living, you should be better at it. he did his best. As long as the measurements, cuts, gluing, and tuning are all done right, he did his job. Modeling it on the computer is not the most important part.

yes yes, keep on hating...... he was asking for comments. i gave him one. it was in no way suppose to put him down, i know he doesnt do it for a living, i know he might not have much experience with it, ands thats why i didnt comment in the first place. then when he asked for comments i had to say it. lol
I guess i should have said "the first time i read this i was going to comment........".
and now that ive looked at it, i would add a piece in the port to direct the air flow out of the box, not sure how else to explain it.
