Battery keeps dieing
Saturday, May 08, 2010 3:35 PM
Ok so I've gone through a red top and yellow top in the past 3 years. Which leads me to believe I have a paracityc draw problem. I've done the proper checks with a fluke meter and it says the cars only pulling .01-.02 ma. Which is within specs. I've talked to a few local friends and they agree it makes no sense. So figured I would ask here???? I'm to the point of just leaving the ground cable off if the car sits for more than a few days. I just got a new yellow top which now has a 3 year full replacement warranty , but would rather not use it if neccesary lol.

check all added lights, audio/video equiptment. my cuzion had tvs in there and they were on a temp circuit that was always on till we put on a switched circuit. the tvs would slowly drain it overnight. neon underglows with the muliti patterens could be turning on by them selves. air ride if equippted may have a leak causing the tank to drain and then the comp to kick on to refill. after a few of these the batt will be dead from the comps drawl. got any thing like that. think what did u do with in the time frame of the batts dieing and ull lead to ur cause. thats what we did figd when the batts started to die and what did we do during that time.

I've checked and disconnected anything that I thought might be drawing(mainly the underglows, I WISH I had airirde lol). The whole purpose of the parcytic draw test was to show if there was any excessive draw from anything on the battery. If there was it was just a matter of starting to unplug things until the draw went away. So basically what you did to your car. I was hoping there was a draw of some sorts. But theres not from what the test is showing. Thats the main reason I made this post. To see if anyone had any ideas. I have a friend who's on here, works for GM and is awesome at electrical. Hes even at a loss.

I had the same problem Eco but mine was from lack of use. I ended up getting a battery maintainer that has the float charging feature. It keeps the batteries at charge all of the time, for $30 it was cheaper then me buying more Optimas...

^^^ How long would your car sit before the battery would be dead? Less than a week after I got my last yellow top it was dead . I have a battery tender. Just have to see how it works I suppose.

My car sat for 8 days and still cranked over fine. Id imagine youre going to need some type of battery tender since batteries will slowly lose charge even with no load on them.

Mine would sit a lot longer then a week.... I would crank it every few weeks up to even a month at a time.

Seems you have something drawing a constant power. Either that or possibly your alternator is not charging the battery? I hate battery problems they make everything seem all jacked up, hard to diagnose sometimes.

thats exactly what i do. i'd check your alternator or if you have a capacitor they will draw from the battery to maintain a constant 12 volts. just speaking from my experiences..

I'm sure its not the alternator. It did it with the stock one and now the ion redline alternator. I'm just gonna leave it on a tender from now on. Thanks for the thoughts guys

i actually have the same issue, i used to be able to go 2-3 months without an issue now after two weeks ive gotta jump it. you might just have issues with the battery itself. optima's quality has gone down over the last several years. i'd try and help you more but i havn't been messing with my car lately.
