Hi. I have a few questions. 1) Why does everyone say that you have to amp components and not coaxials. how can the lack of a tweeter on a speaker make it need more power? 2) I have a 2000 sunfire with the six speaker sound (tweeters mounted in door panel) Is the 4x6 in the door still a coaxial, or is it a true component system? 3) i have sony xplode 6x9s in the back. What does anybody think about them? Thanks.

Coax DO have tweeters, but they are mounted on the speaker.

The main reason you don't need to amplify coax (usually, you CAN amp them) is because they have cheap crossover components.

What this means is that the crossover components won't cut as much bass away from the tweeter as components which have high quality, dedicated crossover circuits.

Also, companies put more expensive materials and technologies in to their components, allowing them to take more power without overheating, or overexerting.

Also, your door speakers ARE a "true" component setup, but not a good one by any means.

6.5" is where car audio manufacturers focus the majority of their research and development. If you can switch to 6.5" components, you'll be worlds above.

Sony is good start, but there are much MUCH better speakers available for only small increases in price.

most companies put allot of r&d into 5 1/4 as well. just the big thing nowadays is to just get that bigger speaker insalled. coaxials as said have tweeters. but they are made allot more cheaply because its assumed the owner just wants to drop in a better sounding speaker without much work, you can still amp coaxials and youlle have a better sound then off of the headunit but most people that buy coaxials just run them off the headunit power because they dont want to spend the money and componets as said are designed allot better, desgined to handle higher power loads. have crossovers sometimes as big as some co-axial speakers.
