My door speaker and tweeter install.

Ok So here is a pic of the finished door panel and tweeters,I know not to much to see but i wanted it to look stock...

The speakers behind are a pair of Focal 6 1/2 K power...The doors have been matted on the outer door skin and then the door skin..Then behind each speaker is a dyna pad, cascade audio matting..

Then the speaker is mounted to a 3/4 inch medix plate which is mounted to the door with Stainless hard wear,And then siliconed around the panel and the metal of the door..

We then cut out a 61/2 inch hole in the door panel and used the grill from the Focal speaker and pushed it from behind to give the driver room to move,But just enough room for the factory handel to clear to roll the window up and down..Then the door was re carpeted to look stock...When I pull the panel off one day I will take some more pics..

Now for the tweeters..I know some of you will be all its to far away...But these are Focals and if you have not worked with them they are ok to mount like this,Hard to see in the pic but they have been both angled in towards each other to aid in dead air in the center..This works very well,And a Focal tweeter sounds almost like a 3 1/2 inch speaker its not just a sizzle sound like most..

There's no such thing as "too far away"

Thanks for the comments..

Well some ppl are in the myth of tweets should only be so far away..And some cheaper tweets should be mounted close just to keep them toned down..

did you work with the reflections off the glass and any left/right side bias? thats the only issue i could see cropping up with that install. other then that very clean.

Well I worked a bit with the reflection off the glass,But focal tweets have great off axis response,As far as left or right bias I was able to trick that out by just turning up the rear speakers which then fills the middle of the dash...You really have to hear it to understand it..I also used Alpines Imprint manager,Which I will say works really well for SQ,But becuse the car is so noisy when driving it it total kills the Imprint set up..

So for everyday driving I used time correction and the Bulit in eq...Which works very well...

Using imprint was probably the most important setup step you did. How many positions did you mic from?

I did all positions..Like i said though for just doing sq its great, but for everday in my car it just does not work well...

i agree with focal being good for off axis, just as close to the glass id think reflections would be a major issue. not saying that it doesnt work, just seems like you'd have to fight allot of issues for that location. seems odd to use rear fill to help with the middle as well. just seems that would make a good soundstage even harder. would be curious to hear it though.

Neato. How much does that carpeting muffle the mid and where did you get a carpet that looked like stock?

Now I want to get my Rainbows installed.

Well rear fill will bring up front sound stage...if you can do it try it in your car...works similar to being in a concert hall which reflects off the rear walls...

And the carpeting does not muffle at all..And just had some at the shop that happened to be real close..

ive just never been a fan of rear fill in the car. the reflections off the back of a concert hall at the distance travelled are alot diffrent then a matching signal being played directly behind your head.

Well rear fill is a important factor...And with options like Imprint,And time alinment it relly works well..But everone has different taste...
