Gauges working or not? - Audio & Electronics Forum

I know my voltage meter is working right, but i got an after market air/fuel ratio and a oil pressure gauge. My oil pressure gauge is at like in the middle and goes up when i rev the engine, and my air/fuel ratio gauge just stays still. Did I mix the signal wires?
Well I think my oil pressure gauge is working correctly, but how comes the air/fuel doesn't go up? Did I splice into the wrong wire? I spliced into the gray wire going to the o2 sensor that plugs into my intake. Is this right or wrong? Should I try the brownish wire?
The O2 sensor isn't on your intake, it's on your exhaust. Last time I checked that's a purple wire.
so does anyone know where i wire this to then?
ok i read some other posts and it is the purple wire but where exactly is this located? is it on the driver's side where the headers meet the valve?
it's at the collector, where the 4 runners meet and turn into the single exhaust pipe/.
so its near the bottom basically. is it reachable to use my wire stripper to splice the wire to it?

wouldn't bother. it tells you absolutely nothing. may as well just have a gauge for how dumb the owner is.
car audio noob since 1984.
well i have to hook it up, even if it doesn't help me at all. i don't really care it looks cool. the only one that will really help me is my voltage because i got tons of accessories in my car.
Itll get really annoying. All it does is bounce back and forth and add resistance to the O2 snesor circuit which will throw off your fueling table slightly.
so you mean worse gas mileage? sigh, i already wired up all the wires. why do they make this gauge if it is more work than good. i don't get it? the guy at glowshift said it would be fine. i needed 3 gauges to fill my pod. the voltage was great due to my accessories, and the oil one was good incase anything goes bad with the oil. i needed a third one and i already got a tach but i couldn't find anything else that was good. he suggested a vacuum one but i thought that was too hard to install. what do you think i should do? i've already been through the oil temp gauge, i am just sick of switching i just want this project over and done with.
Its not that noticeable. Its only really noticeable if you get your car tuned. Most of the gauges are semi-useless on a stock car IMO. You could get an OB2 scanner gauge. Though they are pricey.
well if it's not noticable then i guess i will do it. i do have a cold air intake which is supposed to help a little so i guess it will even out.
well i just connected my sensor wire to the purple wire coming from the o2 sensor. it is reading full blast. i took a drive to see if it would change and it doesn't. anyone know what the problem could be? i checked the ground wire and it seems fine. it is connected to the other 2 gauges and they work just fine so it cannot be that. i hooked the sender wire to the little clip that i took off and the purple wire attached to that. i tried to get at the other one with the big plastic part but it was not reachable. i barely got the one spliced that i did.
can someone help me with this today? i want to get these gauges done and i am so close all i got to do is get the gauge working. should it read full rich at all times?
anyone please? i just tried reconnecting the signal wire and it does the same thing. i shed some more insulation thinking it didn't get enough wire but it is still doing it. someone please help me with this today!

let the car warm up at idle.. watch to see if it changes at all then. what kind of a/f is it? if its a narrow band it will either read full or nothing. mine will read full until it starts to warm up then it works just fine.
it is a narrow band. i have a 2003 cavalier. i thought it might do that until it warms up. but then i took like a 10-15 minute drive to get some food and it hasn't moved. it immediately goes all the way to the right in like a super fast motion, which gives me the sense something is wrong. if it went to the right in a normal speed like the others do, then i wouldn't think too much of it as much as i do now. i connected it to the purple wire on the oxygen sensor itself. someone says that the ECU is a better spot. where is the ECU on my car and which wire could I splice it to?
it does that cause its a narrow band.. if you want one that reads more user friendly then get a wideband.
so it is correct then? if say i have a gas leak or something will it read lean? just so if i have a problem it will read something different right? if it reads full that is fine with me i don't care, but if something goes wrong it will read different?
i thought it was supposed to jump around like crazy like everyone says.
here is where i tapped into the o2 sensor:
try soldering them together
*sigh*
swooosh!
i cant reach a solder down there i could barely get the electric tape on. i guess it is how it is supposed to read. unless someone knows where i can get a splice from the ECU at.
Basically a narrow band is a useless gauge that is only good for a ricer light show.
Paying someone to install parts and bragging about it being fast, is like watching someone bang your wife and being proud to raise their kids.
