Quick Question
Sunday, August 15, 2010 11:29 AM
Starting yesterday, when i turn my volume up on my stereo ( not even that loud) it gets very staticy, and then both my amps (speakers and subs) shut off. Is this due to a possible grounding issue? I had taken my dash apart to put in new gauges, and didn't know if i may have bumped something.
Thanks

Well today i traced my remote turn on wire, to see if it was having grounding issues, and there was not any. But now everything works again, but now my stereo is always on. I can turn my car off and open the door, and it remains to stay on. Anybody have any possible ideas?

Thanks

i think its your acc wire (red wire...if you have an aftermarket wire harness) if its not hooked up, your radio doesnt shut off

It was hooked up to the acc wire on the harness.. I have never had issues like this until now...

Well I'm still having this problem, and someone had suggested that my amps may be pulling to much power. So i tested this, and charged my battery for a few hours and it worked flawlessly, but then a few days later the symptoms came back. So my question is, if i do the "Big 3" wiring upgrade will this help keep my battery charged better?

Check the ground in the radio harness.

I checked all my ground wires, and power wires about a week ago and could not find anything unusual or wrong.

Actually, if it's not hooked up your radio won't turn ON.

Make sure your RCAs are plug in fully at the deck and the amp (I'm working on the static issue first).
Get a multimeter or voltmeter and measure the voltage at the amp that is running your speakers. If you have lower than 11.5 volts or so with the engine off, I would take a look at your amp's ground and make sure it's connected firmly to chassis metal with the paint scraped off where the ground terminal connects.

Well its only staticy when wen it gets to a higher volume and if i don't turn it down, it shuts the amps off.

Yeah. That sounds like a bad ground or even a bad amp to me.

Or a bad head unit.
