high powered sound system and electrical upgrades
Friday, August 27, 2010 5:03 PM
my setup currently consumes 1500 watts of power RMS so should i get my alt rewound or purchase an h.o one instead?

also i will be upgrading my battery and wondering what is the best one to use?

or would stock electrical be enough to handle this amount of power??

you will be pulling about 105 amps on a straight note, music it will be only about 50-60 amps, i would do something with the big three and and an upgraded battery, maybe an extra one in the back, no real need for an alternator at that power.

105 amps? are you sure about that?
according to 12volts it is more like 200
here is the link http://www.the12volt.com/info/recwirsz.asp
and i believe stock alt can only supply 140, some1 correct me if i am wrong..

JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

dont get an alt rewound, What i would do is go to the junkyard and get a large case ad244 off a tahoe etc and put it on the cavalier. thats 145 amps and bolts right up. then get a battery for the back

Large Case Alt Swap

The original interchange list link doesnt work. I reposted a new one later in the thread. Best upgrade I ever did for the money. $50 at the junkyard and I get very little voltage drop.

Would a utilizing a large case bog the engine down more than the stocker?

no. it would just add a tiny bit of weight.

Just some food for thought, for anyone interested..... KnuKonceptz.com now sells high output alternators. SO, if you go to their site they sell a 160amp alt. for Cavalier's for $225.... and if you say the Tahoe alternators fit, they make a 200amp alternator for the Tahoe for $255... Just an idea.
