my friend has a garmin. we used it to drive 5 hours to a concert. it lost the signal more times than we could shake a stick at. wound up getting lost.
i have a Tom Tom myself and i like it
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
I love Garmin's for the simple stuff I need, and the 4.3" widescreen is definitely a necessity. I have the 205W (the cheaper version than that one) and it does everything I need. Although lately on the last two of three times I've used it, it's gotten lost or confused. But besides that, in the two years I've had it it's been fine.

I do sales for the whole state of florida. I use my garmin (old faithful 350) for 8 hours a day for the last 3 years and she hasnt failed me yet. Having updated maps would probably help as im running 08 maps.
If your on a budget go with the 205W. 4.3" screen and text to speech.
I use the garmin 255WT and love it. never loses signal, always great directions and on time. love everything about it.
Phones with GPS suck balls for driving. THey dont update fast enough and its a bitch looking down at it.. I've tried it with my blackberyy.
I have a Garmin and love the thing.... if I ever bought another it would be a garmin.

Found your problem, I've never had a problem using the GPS on my Samsung Moment from Sprint
I also have a Garmin 255w, I've never had a problem with it until recently it needs the updated maps, but the updates are as much as buying a new GPS
Lanman31337 -F = fatties = do not want. A little chunk in the junk is ok though.

I concur. GPS on my Blackberry blows.
Using GPS on my iPhone, however, is just as good as using my Garmin GPS.
Disclaimer: I will probally offend you with what is written in this post.
Heh, GPS on BOTH of my BlackBerrys is awesome and use in Europe and the Middle East....
i worked with all types of gps. i use them mainly for mapping / traveling parks and large areas on my 4wheeler. the things that i have found.
garmin's map upgrades are expensive. but if you get a mapping, navigation one, google maps and any gis data can be uploaded to it. costs range from 200-1000 dollars. Garmin is the industry leader for GPS's though. nuvi's are great car unit, you will get better support and more growth and usage.
magellan maestro, i use in my car. i drive all over the us and never had be lost. never lost signal even when traveling down alabama route 100, through some areas that looked like deliverance.again map upgrades cost, about 60 dollars. unit cost 100 bucks
tom tom. has routed me through corn fields and down one ways. its now a paper weight
my favorite complaint is that GPS are not accurate enough. to within 5-10 feet of where you stand. government regulations, you can't get any closer unless.....
you go trimble. trimble accuracy is 2cm give or take. you don't need maps for it, anything you want you can download, or just create your own. it will also run you around 5000 for a basic unit and a monthly phone charge, because to use it you dial into you location.
The only GPS phone I've had is a blackberry. It works great walking around most times, but just isnt reliable of fast enough to use in a car. It comes in handy if I ever get lost on my bike and pull it out to see where I am though. (stopped alongside the road)
My Garmin told me to drive down a bicycle trail once and on longer trips, some of the POI's and maps are off or out of date because of new construction or whatever. But other then that I've never had a problem with it.
Do NOT use a Mio GPS..I hate this thing
My g/f uses a Tom Tom. We've used it a few times, and it is pretty good. Barely loses signal and if it does, if usually picks it up pretty quick. Just make sure you always check for updates for it. They have the maps and what not updated a lot.
My IPhone GPS isn't bad. It does have a lag, which is a pain in the ass sometimes, but it is pretty good with roads and what not.
I like Tom. Even though my friends said he was doing 143 mph through a cornfield on the way back from the Bash.
I personally love my Droid X's GPS.. has never let me down!
