Fuse box removal
Friday, September 10, 2010 9:28 AM
Ok, so I know there are easier ways, but I am installing power windows, locks, car starter and alarm to my beater, and I want to run a new power wire through the fuse box. How on earth do I get access to the back of the fuse box? 1998 Sunfire SE coupe. Ive searched everywhere, can not find any info.

Thanks!

Thats what I did. You can get creative about where to place it. Mine is under the dash and is fed by an 8 gauge wire. This why you're not messing with the factory wiring and also making it easier on yourself.

Ya I did the same. I dont think it can be pulled out without removing a large portion of the dash. I used a 9 gauge wire, any suggestions a distribution block though? Like a picture of commonly used automotive ones for lower current draw applications? I have one for my amplifiers but its for large wires, and I think its 1 into 2 only.

Removing the fuse panel is easy.. at the top there's a clip to release it... push that down, then slide the panel out of the metal dash frame, and pull out the works from below the dash.

I was able to get the fuse box loose from the dash itself, but I could not pull it through the hole on the driver side, and it wont fit down from under the dash due to all the metal. Are you saying once its loose that I disconnect the wires themselves from the fuse box, pull the fuse box through the driver side hole, and then the wires from under the dash? I wasn't sure if I should disconnect the wires from the fuse box and risk them all being loose random wires.

Nah, you slide the whole works out of the metal beneath the dash.. I've done it a few times, it only fits one way... but I am unable to describe over the internet exactly how to make it work

Hmmmm, I guess I'll have to give it a try one of these days. Thanks for the help.

don't disconnect any wires off of it or you will be screwed

wouldnt you beable to take a fuse block off another car and use that as a remote distro set up? it may be more complicated, but the panels are made to run 30 amps through them, maybe one of the under dash ones with the larger style fuses in them?
