I have a 2000 z24 convertible.. My questions are...

My Cd player just stop playing cds duh!.. any way to fix it?
Also how can I burn Cds and be able to see on the display of the radio the name of the song? Like I can see the name of the Radio Stations, and the songs playing.....but not on a CD.

All this on a Stock radio..

easy way out huh..... why have an aftermarket radio on a convertible... very easy to steal... even with an alarm they do more harm to the car than the cost of the radio..

You know most stereos have the detachable faceplate for paranoid people like yourself.
Thieves are less likely to steal a faceless stereo.

but still they will try to find it inside the car. and cause more damage...

Your best bet is to replace it, either with an OEM or aftermarket. If you wish to conceal an aftermarket HU, keep power to the factory broken unit so the clock stays on and mount the new HU somewhere else, glove box, trunk, under seats...wherever you choose. You could also install the stereo behind a cover plate made from the stock unit's face.

yeah you can repair it for like $250 if you want but honestly get an aftermarket. If you so paranoid leave the top up. Also that will be the only way to get track names on the radio.

To accomplish what you are asking you would need to take it to a repair shop, the CD laser arm is probably broken.
Secondly, CD burning programs like Nero allow you to add CD-Text, which will allow you to put track names on the CDs you burn.

But realistically. You can get a deck that will play mp3s, usb, and auxiliary in the neighborhood of $100 (sometimes less).

Just get a new deck.

Or get a working Delco radio and change the CD unit only. Approx 8 screws, unplug, replace unit, plug in, screw in 8 screws back and you are back to normal. Where to find a Delco radio? Junk yard or ebay. Hell, even here you'll find plenty. For the record, I'm talking about the 2000-05 radios. Since you don't have your profile filled out, I don't know if this will pertain to you as I don't know how the 1995 & 1996-99 radios are. I can imagine they are not to different.

He said 2000 in first post. Yes that's an option too I suppose. Although I'm somewhat at odds with it

1995-99 you have to deal with theftlock. There was a thread on here years ago with a 1-800 number you could call to get your password, but I don't know if that still exists. Dealer would be your friend in that case, but most charge for it.

Everyone was trying to be helpful. They didn't realize how anal you were about someone breaking into your car for a stereo with no face plate. I have seen stock stereos stolen just as much as an after market one. If someone is that hard up fro money they will break into any car to steal anything they can get their hands on. Hell the only cars I have had broken into were the ones that I left stock.

A stock stereo is worth more than a $99 Wal-Mart one.

I had the same problem in my '01 cav, all i did was shoot a compressed air duster into the slot and it started working again. Try it if you have a can of the stuff lying around. Otherwise, if you are worried about it getting stolen, get a cheapo deck and make sure when you install it, it can come out easily. I learned that at a young age. If they just yank it out, all your out is a $100 deck. If you bolt that thing down and make it hard as hell to get out, they are gonna take a crowbar or something and you'll have a bigger headache than just a missing deck.

Truth. We used to park the $h!tty cars out back of my shop with the doors unlocked just so that morons wouldn't break the windows to bust in and then find nothing of value anyway. Probably made a nice bed for some homeless dudes too, haha

Hey parroloco, I think you just replace your deck. It is better option for you. You can buy new deck at under $100.

The point of a removable faceplate is to TAKE IT WITH YOU... not leave it in the car.
