ok guys I don't post here often, but I'm looking for some opinions.
I like good sounding audio. I spend money on audio equipment, but I'm by no means an audiophile.
that being said, I've always found it hard to ride the fence on vehicle performance and justifying adding weight for a good sounding audio system.
I've recently shifted to all alpine stuff, and brand loyalty aside, I really like their stuff.
I just bought a new alpine headunit (CDA-117) and I have alpine type S components in the front, and alpine type S 6x9 in my rear deck.
I love the sound, but I want a bit more clarity and punch with bass.
here are the options I'm thinking of:
-Run alpine power pack to boost RMS output from 18watts to 45watts and leave my current speaker setup alone.
-replace rear 6x9s with JL audio midbass 6.5" drivers and run them off ~300watt external amplifier.
-run alpine power pack to boost RMS output from 18watts to 45 watts, replace rear 6x9s with alpine component speakers (leave out tweeters since I already have a set in front).
rules:
I really DO NOT want to run a large subwoofer box in my trunk (this is my daily driver, and I do like having the trunk space), and I would prefer to keep vehicle weight down. I was thinking about a single 12" or 10" DVC sub with a class D mono amp but securing the box is somewhat of a bother and would prefer to use existing factory holes (aka 6x9 openings)
I would prefer to not run an external amp, but I realize that may be a necessary evil for more power.
What do you guys think? what would you do to get a bit more bass, avoid large trunk sub box. Amps are ok.
please disregard.
after thinking more about costs, single 12" sub and amp makes more sense money wise.
If you're worried about weight, seriously consider looking into 8" woofers. They sound great these days.
Why not just get an Alpine Type S 10" or 12" sub for the trunk? They aren't very heavy (small magnet), and the reccomended box for a sealed 12" is only 0.85-1.5 cubic feet.
I run a single 12 in a 1 cubic foot box. Even with the amp rack I still have tons of room in the trunk.
