I have a 99 Sunfire GT and the only key I got with it was a copy. However, it has a single wire leading to the trunk latch. I know there is no electronic release button on the dash/door of these cars, did this car have a keyless remote from the factory? My SE has no remote and no wires to the trunk latch, and my gf's SE has the remote and the wire. Anyone know?

more than likely yes it does... go to the dealer's parts department and give them your vin... you will get your answer then
The wire going to the trunk latch is for remote trunk pop.. Even though there is no button inside the car, there would be a button on the keyless remote you are missing...
If youre feeling adventurous, you can also check behind the trunk carpet on the driver side to find the keyless module velcroed to the top of the wheel well..
Side Note- You can add an in-car trunk pop button by using a momentary switch & throwing 12v+ to that wire on the latch.
Yeah, there is the remote module on the wheel well. I snagged a remote from a Z24 at the junkyard the other day, will this be reflashable to work on this car?

it should be the same remote... but you'll need to go to the GM dealer and have them program it with the Tech 2
If your car is a 95-99, you can program the remote yourself. The instructions are on the forum here:

The electronics changed for the '00 and up.
