I've currently got two 10" MTX Thunders that are more than a few years old in a box that currently with my amplifier set up takes up almost all the useable space in my trunk. So what I'm looking for is a single 12" sub and your recommendations for a solid box. It will be mated to a Alpine MPR-500 amp.
What are you looking to spend? are you looking to get loud or sound good? Are you open to sealed, ported, or either? I mean... there's not enough info to make an educated recommendation.

$200-$300CDN would be my ideal price range. I'd rather it sound good then just be loud, box type doesn't matter to me whatever is best. I'm not too familiar with subs.
hmmm that's a tight budget for a nice sub AND quality enclosure. A good, properly built sealed enclosure is going to run about $100-125 shipped alone. I wish you were in the US, then I could get you a 12" Rainbow hammer and a sealed enclosure near your budget, but they come in dual 2 ohm coils only, so that amp wouldn't be ideal anyway.
I don't know the current exchange rate, or what shipping would cost, but I suppose a reasonable sub and box could be found for about that. Maybe stick to an Alpine Type-R? I just don't know what is available to you up there in CA.

Actually looking at it again, 300 watts at 4 ohms wouldn't be bad at all on a 12" Rainbow hammer. And the 12" Hammer in Rainbow's sealed enclosure I could do for $270USD shipped within the US if you are interested I can double check the additional shipping to CA.

What would be better the Rainbow or the Type R? Cause i certainly don't mind going a little higher to get something better. Our dollar up here is even, its just customs I would have to worry about.
Rainbow is a higher end Sound Quality driven sub. You can expect great build quality, beautiful clean sound(I can attest to the Hammer's. If they made them in 8's I'd be running them lol). Type-R's are decent all around basic subs, always have been that middle road affordable sub. But for pure sound quality and build quality, I will give it to a higher end brand than the "bang it out quick, fill the shelves and sell it to every single store in the world" crap.

Another great point, Jason. Rainbow can't be bought at any store... actually I have a list of the 6-7 Rainbow dealers in the country lol. So it would be a bit more exclusive. When you buying some Rainbow speakers, Jason?
