Also, if u really are a motorcycle mechanic(I say mechanic because I've grown up with the belief that a technician went to college ), you should be able to afford living in a nicer neighborhood man. If you can't afford living somewhere u won't get broken into once a week, you shouldn't be buying $ 500+ head units.

That's a little bit of an insult to the kid.
He cant help where life has put him. For all we know, He's trying to save up for a better place.

Lets be helpful before we jump to conclusions, and insult him.

To the OP:

Maybe try to fabricate some kind of cover for it? If you're a mechanic, You've got access to some nice equipment.
Maybe some kind of metal door? On hinges, or something? Might be kinda hott if you do some black or stainless, and if your windows are tinted, perhaps it would be harder to see?

Send some pics, and we can help you a bit better.

It wasn't meant as an insult, it was common sense. If you know your neighborhod is that bad, and you can't park in a garrage, plan accordingly. An epensive head unit is a bad purchase if you are almost certain you'll get broken into. If he has a good job like his profile says, he shouldn't have to live in a bad part of town (like the entire @!#$hole city of dayton lol).

most thiefes would know a flip out from a piece of junk or stock stereo so wether its flipped out or not likely wont make a diffrence. added to that allot of people that modify cars will tint there windows. chances are good tinted windows on a car means a higher chance of having an aftermarket radio.

now jlaudio isnt nessicarily being an ass when he says move to a better neighborhood. that doesnt nessicarily mean he has to buy something way more expensive, just some neighborhoods are worse then others. because if its been broken into twice now and hes now got a flip up screen. chances are the theif is the same guy and he knows that this kid just keeps putting stereos back in the car. its like the theifs own little bank. he hits the car. waits for owner to replace the headunit, hits the car waits for the owner to repair the headunits over and over and over.

some options. if you have a paging alarm with a battery backup to alert you, then i'd look at mounting the headunit with steel instead of those buy in a bag cheap plastic install kits that any 10 year old could rip out of the car. use security screws or hex heads. something a theif isn't likely to be carrying with him so he can't get the thing out. anything to make it take longer to get out. other option is to build a fake faceplate to put overtop of the aftermarket unit that looks stock so hopeuflly they will look in. see a stock looking unit and move on. go without a head unit. can't steal what isnt there. move somewhere else.

In the past (with more room behind the deck than our cars. I would recess the flip out and make a snap in faceplate out of raped old chevy tape decks. You gotta be careful you don't make it look too custom though, or you ruin the purpose.

Hey hey hey. Dayton isnt that bad. Well 75 is going through there because they cant actually make the roads not a giant series of potholes. I almost lost the Sunfire in one the other day.

I think I probably park my car in worse areas than downtown Dayton.

I've done that before with old Ford AM/FM faces. You just build a box to slide over the existing, paint the sides black, and voila, it looks like it's factory.

Install it in the glove box and leave a big hole in your busted up dash with the wires hanging out with a cut harness.
