Dead speaker wire
Tuesday, February 15, 2011 6:59 AM
Okay so I posted something on here a while back about my 6x9's not working.
I finally put my factory speakers back in to get at least SOME sound in the back except bass.
So anyways, hooked up the left one first, worked great, then hooked up the right one. Didn't work.
I thought maybe it was the speaker so I switched them to find out. The speaker works fine.
The right speaker wires (I believe it's yellow and brown) dont work.
Any suggestions on how to solve this? I think I'm gonna have to re-wire it anyways. But any suggestions?
If I do re-wire I'm just going to all of them with bigger wire.
Any help is appreciated. thanks

Try testing the outputs directly at your head unit. Your stereo could be the problem, otherwise probably a bad wire.

I would say check the connection behind the head unit first.

u could just grab the speaker and hook it up to the speaker wire coming out of the headunit, quick and easy if it doesnt work u know that there is no signal coming out of your headunit, it ir works you know your wire is the issue and then you can just run a new wire to the back.

Okay tried testing the wires with a circuit tester.. Tested power wire first to make sure I had a good ground. The thing lit up. Tested the wires for the back right speaker and it didn't light up. Out of curiosity I tested the back left speaker wires also and it still didn't light up, but I know there's power going back there.
Could it be the circuit tester I'm using? Any suggestions?

Speaker output is in AC. Test lights read DC. Take a multimeter set it to AC voltage and test away.

or just plug the speaker in by the headunit and listen for sound.
