Hey guys i am installing some new speakers into my 1999 cav and was wondering if i should just hook these up to stock speaker wires or go with an amp to make them better or if it will really make a differance
i am installing 2 jl 4inch TR400-CXi speakers in the front doors and 2 6X9 jl C2-690TX speakers in the rear deck
the front door speaker specks are RMS: 70 watts per pair / 35 watts each Peak: 100 watts per pair / 50 watts each
the rear deck specks are RMS Power: 70 Watts, Peak Power: 125 watts
i want to know amps you would go with for these speakers i have no idea how to match these up to the amp needed or if one is really needed
also if any adaptors are needed if so where can i buy the amp/adaptors Thanks!!
thanks for the reply any idea of a good amp?
i had my eye on this one its but the speakers i want are 4 olhm impedance and have an rms of 70 watts the amp runs 60 watts with 4 ohlm will that still run them? What should i do?!
jl audio amp
you won't be able to audibly hear the diffrence between 60 watts and 70 watts. the are other amps out there that will push that much power cleanly for less price but if your big into jl there is nothing wrong with jl amps. when i look for an amp i just try to make sure i have more power then i need. you can always adjust an amp down for less power but you cant adjust an amp up for more. but again. budget plays a big part in that, and how much space you have etc etc.

I'm a little new into audio stuff and like jl so i just figured i would stick with a jl but i wouldn't mind a different amp any ideas of a good brand? always tryin to same money
I say make/buy adapters and go with 6 1/2's up front.
Are you dead set on just drop in coaxial speakers and an amp? What's the total you want to spend? It might be possible to do it better, and maybe with better equipment too! (I obviously have nothing against jl audio, just find their prices exceed their performace a bit)

thanks for all the replies guys they helped and i ended up going to a local shop and buying the 6x9 jl c2's in the deck and 4 inch tr's in the doors connected to a jl JX360/4 amplifier and yes i did it myself, dont let just anybody work on the cav
really pleased with the speakers i'll be putting a few pics up of them soon so watch for those, thanks again
I originally had a setup like the one you are talking about now, except I had Type-S's front and rear (I didn't keep it that way for long). I would definitely recommend 6.5's up front though if you ever wanted to upgrade, if you didn't want to make adaptors you can find them on ebay for pretty cheap. Also I got rid of my rear 6X9's and my 4 channel amp in favor of a two channel amp and a set of components. I personally like only having fronts, but to each their own. Any plans on adding a sub to your system?
Dave
In my car:
i made adapters for a set of JL C2 6.5's Comps for the front doors
and then i have the TR 6x9's Coaxial in the back
I have an alpine PDX4.150 amping them
Then i Have the HO Box with a JL W7 12 in the trunk powered by a JL 1000/v2 awesome setup so far.
Termlab reading of 140.7 Audio control reading of 141.2
Looking to add some 6.5's to the kick pods i haven't filled yet was thinking about getting another 4 channel and getting some 6.5's RE audio XXX's
I personally love the JL line but yes they are a little on the expensive side but the Components have really good treble.
And the HO box fits in the trunk like a GLOVE lol i had to kick it in there from the front lol haha
Why do u want to put in 2 sets of components? Ugh....

i already have one actually 1 12inch w0 250 watt though, looking to maybe upgrade to say 500ish in the near future, its almost new so it should handle 500 alright
I have no idea what ur asking nolan, but I guess nikki, if cancelation and wasted money are your thing, go for it. Blows my mind that so many people will penny up on jl's prices for the name and quality, but none of their customers know an ounce about setting them up right...

I know what I'm doing for the most part... i haven't bought my next set yet i was either going to go with the xxx's or a 3 way set. if i do a three way set my c2's are going to custom pillar pods instead of in the rear deck and deleting the rear 6x9's
i plan on doing custom door panels before adding the kickpanel speakers though hence why I don't have speakers in there yet. I've actually have been working on planning the sounds stage and i have a buddy in our car group with an oscilloscope.
So I may not know everything but i have done basic research. My car has good over all SQ/SPL but there is always room for improvement as well. I was leaning towards SPL for the last couple years but as I've been learning and 3 stereos installs later I'm going for more SQ. SPL was getting too hard on the ears...but I'm not giving up my W7...i love it
An oscope isn't going to do a thing for the fact that u want a set of comps on axis and a set off axis, both up front, playing the same frequencies, with indipendant tuning and different brand/styles/materials.

lol.... but you are also assuming once i do my customizing they are
not going to be the same axis...
meh, I suppose if you want to go through all the trouble. Don't take offense to this, because I'm not saying JUST you personally, but not many people have the skill set, knowledge, and time to do what you want to do 100% the right way. I get it, you want to get stupid loud with your stuff up front, but honestly saying "I'm getting out of SPL and want to get into SQ.... and am going to put RE XXX components up front WITH my JL components" is quite contradictory. If you wanted to ACTUALLY get into "SQ", not "sounds good to me DD", you would be looking into A. Much higher end equipment, B. sound control and processing, and C. keeping things as simple as you can as to get the sound stage perfect.
