Yo guys. I'm redoing my stereo and I'm looking for a H/O alt for my '99 2.4L z24. If anyone has got some info about where to find one for a decent price let me know please. Also post if you got one for sale =D
How big are you going with the stereo? The large case gm alternator swap, I believe is in a sticky here. Its cheap because u can get one at a junk yard, and works great.
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

I am currently running a 10" Lvl 4 DC Audio, powered by a Power Akcoustic OVN 1200RMS @ 1Ohm. 2x sets of component clarion 6.5's, powered by a Phoenix Gold Tantrum 400.4 (50rms x 4) Also running a .5 Farad Scoche cap <<lol i know(helps with headlight dimming tho). . BUT will be upgrading to a 18" Lvl 5 DC Audio, powered by a Soundstream Tarantula 2600.1 running at .5 ohm at 2600RMS. Also a Soundstream Lil Wonder III series 500.4, (75 or 80 rms x4). ALSO will be upgrading the Cap to a Soundstream 20 Farad.
I have already done the big 3 in 4 Gauge wire, and will be upgrading to true 0 Gauge when putting in alternator.

Not on a Z. The swap only works on 2.2 or 2200 cars. And mine just went out. Stupid frount mounted alt sucking up highway water and salt.
Ditch the cap. It doesnt help a bit.
Ive heard of that an alt off of a 3100 Alero "might," I cant verify in any way shape or form, work for an OEM replacement.

for as much power as your currently running 4 gauges is likely to small. though doubt the PA amp is putting out 1200 watts.

Yes i am sure that the PA is not true power. Its prolly put out more like 850-1000 rms at 1 ohm. But i am currently talking to mechman about a alternator for my Z. Thx for ur input dudes.
Fyi. I will be now putting in a 1400 Kinetik under the hood, and 2x 2400 in the trunk. Upping the Alt to a mechman, (if price is right), Upping the 4 Gauge to a Ture 0 gauge big 3. Ditching the cap, Upping the PA to a Soundstream Tarantuala 2600.1d. Should be a good start. =D
