I have a 98 cavalier base model and i am looking for a high output alternator. I heard that the older chevy trucks have the same alternator as a cavalier but high output ones. I was wonderin if anyone new what kind of trucks have these alternaters. Thank u
Jesus, people bumping 4yr old threads becaused they searched, but we get 3 goddamn alternator request threads in a month or 2?
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

Can Someone please confirm that in the 02 OHV Cavalier the stock pulley will work the way it is? Wouldn't it be too much strain on the Pulley/belt?

why would it be?

From the link that TheSunDownFire posted the S10 guys said that the pulley is further away than the stock one thus stretching the belt more than it should be. Maybe that's just for the S10? I want to do this swap the right way. If I need to buy a new belt thats fine (she could probably use a new one anyway :-p) If you guys say the stocker is fine then i'll buy a new stock belt. Just wanted to make sure. I'd hate for my belt to snap while I'm miles away from home. lol.
I was running a stock pulley on mine until it went out.
I suspect the smaller pulley caused its early demise. Well that mixed with salt and water and general @!#$ty Ohio weather.
You really cant get a bigger belt off the shelf if your car has A/C. Trust me Ive tried.
I need to renew my premi.
The only issue I had with the swap is about a half inch of belt stretch over a about a year, it may have been longer idk.
Im going to see what I can do about getting the alt swap thread stickied.
I have an A/C and I'd rather not part with it. It gets really humid up here in CT during the summer. I guess I'll just go through some belts. No bid deal, I pay Triple A for a reason. They can tow me back home.
You wont go through belts? I just said I ran that setup for almost a year without a bit of trouble. The only issue I had was the alt sucking up a bunch of water and salt from the road but that also killed a coil and ruined a set of plug wires.
Sorry, I must have read this statement fast and mistaken pulley for belt. So the best solution is to use the bigger pulley that comes with the Alt and run the stock belt? Worst case scenario the belt will stretch right?

You take the pulley from your stock alt and put it on the bigger alt.
