Replacing rear speakers
Tuesday, May 17, 2011 7:04 PM
I happen to have a spare set of Fusion Powerplant 6.5" coaxials here at home and one of my rear stock 6x9's are bad.

will the 6.5's be a decent replacement for stock power or should I just replace with a used stocker?

I don't have an amp, and don't know when if I will ever have on in my car. But wouldn't mind some upgraded sound for the time being, and I happen to have these laying around.

Thanks..

stick the 6.5's in. most aftermarket speakers will be better then stock.

Cool...I was concerned about the power needs of the aftermarket ones.

i do not see why you woul waste $ on buying an adapter plate when 6x9 is a very common size. Sell the 6.5's and go a nice pair of 6x9's.

Power should not be an issue at all

I have the adapter plates made already... Took like 10 min.

I've tried to sell them with no luck

so your saying trying to find a buyer for your speakers, waiting on that, then going out and purchasing new speakers is allot less hassle and waste then to run out back cut up a piece of scrap wood and install what he allready has? not to mention the fact that what he has isnt going to net him allot of money so he will have to spend out of pocked to get some 6x9's

I'm not an expert, more of a hit an miss person, but from my encounters with sound systems, I've noticed that replacing a stock paper speaker with another used one is always a bandaid fix. I personally dislike going this route. If I was you, I'd figure out a way to mount the speakers in the 6x9 slots and call it a day. The radio will be able to power it, so you don't have to worry about amps and things of the nature. What will happen is that the speaker will never hit its max potential but it won't sound like it's power drained. It simply has less watts than it would have when its hooked up with an amp.

Also, as a side note, you will have to cut off the clip that goes to the old speakers.

Best of luck to you and hopefully this set up will work for you.

BTW, a heads up... It may seem like the back has more sound than the front, but that is because the back are coaxials and the front are not. An upgrade to the front would fix that up.
