I have an 03 Sunfire that is having some power issues. I had the battery and alternator tested thinking it was the battery. The diagnostic came back saying there was a failure in the diodes from the alternator. Is this a replaceable part or does it mean i have to replace the whole alternator? Anyone have a good reference for doing either job?
you can replace the diode but it'll probably be more expensive/time consuming than just getting another alt, considering that they're relatively cheap
It's a rectifier, and they're not all that expensive.
for the price of the trio/rectifier, you can get a HO rebuild kit from
spring hill. i rebuilt mine in three hours. awesome kit. well worth the price.

car audio noob since 1984.
Thanks for all the info. Looks like I'll rebuild the alternator.... starting the car and losing all stereo presets and the clock is getting old.
