Please, will newer Cobalt radios plug and play into a 2004 Cavalier with factory XM? How about the mounts. I see a 2010 Sierra stereo and some 2008 Cobalt stereos. My CD player is broken, and probably not worth the repair cost.

None, because you need someone with a TECH II to set the radio. For the cost you can get an aftermarket radio, dash kit and harness.
Exactly. I sold my Factory Cd/Tape/XM radio to another J-body owner with a 2002. He had to once installed go to the dealer and have them program the car to accept the new radio and work. That is how the security works on these stereos from 00+
