I've done alot of research about this. So don't tell me to search again.
I'm getting a 2000 sunfire 2.2 5-speed tomorrow with bad motor for $400. Putting new motor in tomorrow as well. So i'd like to add cruise ASAP.
I've searched and searched and searched, but Jlenkos post for adding cruise on hot rodder has been deleted. Then after alot of searching, i found this:
http://web.archive.org/web/20080515094953/http://www.hotrodder.com/kwkride/cruise.html Which seems to be his post, but without the pictures. So i can't see the wiring schematics, and anything else shown. From reading it, it seems like everything should be plug&play...for the 03-05 with the eco anyways...Would it be the same thing for my 2000? And the cruise harness jlenko had sent him, was it just snipped from a wrecker at the firewall, or did he pull the brake/clutch switch plug-in and the cruise arm plug-in through the firewall? I really want to know exactly what i need to do before i install everything, and realize i don't have the correct harness. I also found this:
http://www.thecruisecontrolstore.com/ez-catalog/X380183/0004/Sunfire%20kit It seems to be a stock replacement, but there's no way im paying nearly $300 for a car i have $600 invested in. Is the harness that's in that kit, the same thing Jlenko pulled out of a wrecker? In other words, is the wiring that runs along the firewall for the module, only run through the firewall to plug into the cruise switch, and the 2 pedal switches? So it's not tied into anything else?

Howdy
Interesting aftermarket kit there... it's not the factory cruise box or harness... so it's not quite the same. Not sure how that one works, but it appears to use the factory switch. The way I do it, is to pull the 5 or so wires that you need out of the factory harness (or swap the entire dash harness, if you can find one with the same options/trim as your car). I have never been able to do the latter... but I pulled the one for Kwkride, and I've done two of my own now. I don't have pictures, but I could take some for you. That guy (Kwkride) is long gone... you might be able to email him for pics too.
So.. here's how I do it... go to the auto wreckers... pull the dashboard out (Cav or 'FIre, doesn't matter... as long as it has cruise). If you have an auto, look for an auto.. or same for manual. There is a switch on the manuals on the clutch, that isn't there on the automatic. You really should have it... if you have an auto, you can use the manual version and just omit the clutch switch (one of the wire colours is different... big deal). Once you have the harness out, you can cut out/un-pin just the wiring to the cruise switch and the cruise control box under the hood. Link to picture of what you'll be left with:

So this is the harness piece you want. There's a plug that goes into the engine bay, to the module. There's a plug that goes to the multi-function switch. Then there's three wires to pin into the C100 connector in the engine bay (under the factory air box, by the firewall). Two switches on a manual - one on the clutch, one on the brake. Auto has two, both on the brake... but you only really need one. Then a power wire that goes to the fuse panel, and a ground wire to tap onto the ground somewhere.

I find it easiest to do all the work, if you pull the dash. You could hack up the wiring if you don't want to pull the dash... but I prefer not to splice 100 times to get the factory wiring in.

This is the C100 connector in the engine bay you're attaching 3 wires to. They feed directly to the PCM from here.

The back of the fuse panel, where the pink wire attaches to. Remember to put a fuse in for it.

This is the ground wire... splice into the ground pack with the rest of the black/wire wires.
I think that's pretty much it. The first time I pulled the module, switch, wiring harness and the brackets... it was $100 from a rather-expensive auto wrecking yard. Last time it was $20 but I didn't need the module. If you take your time pulling the stuff out, it makes it a lot easier to understand where it has to go when you put it all into your car. I hope that helps...!
You have just cleared things WAY up for me. I appreciate it alot. Next time i get to the JY, ill have to pull all that stuff. seems simple enough, once you know what you have to do

What color wires plug into the C100 connector
John or cavalier z if your could please tell me which color wires are needed and where exactly they go that
would be great. Also how to hook up this break switch. I have all the stuff to do this just need to get it done.
Look at the schematics. There's three wires that go to connector C100.. dark green, the dark green/white tracer from the cruise module, and the purple
quick question for J lenko. Will 1 of the 2 brake switches fit into the clutch mount? i can't find any 5-speed J's in the local JY that have cruise.

One switch is for cruise control kill on the brake and the other is for brake lights. You want the manual because it will kill the cruise by pressing the brake or by pressing the clutch. I guess you could splice them in series and add an extra switch. If you don't have two switches and you move the one frome the brake it will try to accelerate when braking and if you don't have one for the clutch it will reve high when pressing the clutch. I made this mistake on my other car.

I don't recall... I'll have a look at the wrecker here when I have a chance for ya.

Yeah, i was planning on splicing them together. i wouldnt mind shutting off the cruise before i push the cklutch in, but i feel like it would get annoying quick. lol.

Okay, no hurry, i found a guy with a parts cavi with cruise...figured it would be cheaper from him than the JY, and easier to deal with...the JY near me, wanted $35 for a cavi gauge cluster with a tach...which was understandable..but when i went to get another one another day for a sunfire cluster, he said he usually gets 40-45...i was like what the hell? Then another day, he only wanted $25 for a whole sunroof assembly! What i pay, just depends on how happy he wakes up in the morning.

bringing this back I hooked everything up to give it a try and i think i connected the purple wire to the c100 because my car wouldn't shut off until I cut the wire. Which purple wire do you connect to?
Look at the schematics. The purple wire is supposed to go to the brake switch (on an automatic), to tell it to shut off. You can tap it at the brake switch itself, or at C100 pin J9 (also a purple wire). Don't accidentally tap into a Class 2 purple wire though.. (at pin G7). That could end badly.
There are three other wires that are supposed to go to the C100 connector... all in the J row.. J1 is the dark green (cruise signal disengage), J3 is light blue w/ black tracer (cruise signal engage) and J7 is dark green w/ white tracer (speed signal).
I have some questions, since none of the links or pictures for the C100 reference work.
I have an '02 Sunfire automatic.. got the module, cable, stalk, and cruise release switch for the brake from a junkyard, and the wiring. Long story short, it doesn't work.
What I think C100 is is the large connector with wires coming out of both sides on the drivers side, engine compartment, next to the shock tower. If that's correct, I don't know how any of you were able to get to those wires--I certainly couldn't. The wires leading out the bottom of that connector run under the air filter, which is where I spliced in dark green, green/white, lt blue/black, and purple. Is that acceptable to use instead of the C100 wires? Also, I have 3 pinks, one from the module, one from the stalk, and one from the release switch. All 3 are run to the fuse box, cruise fuse. Is that acceptable?
Also, 3 questions.
1) My cruise release switch for the brake has 3 wires coming out of it.. one pink, and 2 purple. One purple I ran to the module, the other runs to the PCM, at the same connector under the air filter I did the other 3 wires to. Is that correct?
2) My module had a white wire, which the wiring diagram said runs to the wire on the stop lamp switch at the white wire. I spliced it in. Is that correct? It doesn't make any sense why that wire would splice in there.
3) Is there a way to jump or test the module itself to see if it works? The only thing I could figure out was to measure for power at the pink and purple wires going to the module.. and they have power, except the purple one cuts power when I hit the brake.
Any help would be great.
bump. Replaced the module, still not working. I've tested all pins at the CCM with a test light that I could--12V power, set/decel switch/ resume/accel switch, on/off switch, and ground. All are working. At this point all I can think of is either the VSS wire isn't right, or the dk green or lt blue/black are wrong, but they look right to me. They should be cruise inhibit and cruise engaged. Anybody know how to test that? Or anyone have any other ideas?
