Wiring/alarm gurus, have some ?'s....
Wednesday, February 16, 2005 12:33 PM
I'm installing an alarm with keyless, on my 2001 Z24 that has factory keyless.

I have a few questions though-

1. I'm lost about the entry illumination ground output, says I need to connect it to an external relay, so on, and hell, do I need it? If so where is this "Start Solenoid Wire"?

2. Trunk release, I need a low current output from the trunk release circuit to wire this "low current negative pulsed output" wire to, and I honestly have no clue what I'm doing when wiring this up so I haven't attempted it.

3. Using the keyless on the alarm in place of my factory keyless!, where do I find the factory wiring, what colors am I going to need (Power lock= LT BLUE, Power unlock=WHITE, found somewhere at the BCM?) ????

Also do I have a-
3 wire ground switched door lock circuit
3 wire ground switched 2step door lock circuit
3 wire positive switched door lock circuit
3 wire positive switched 2step door lock circuit

I got the basics all done, the siren, LED, valet switch, power, ground, switched power.....so on. I'm just LOST! when it comes to wiring the door locks and trunk release .

The instructions are kinda vague, and this is somewhat unfamiliar territory, any help you can be PLEASE POST!

get a wiring diagram for your car...

With RKE from the factory, the car should be a 3 wire positive switched door lock circuit.
However, the weird thing when wiring up my compustar, I needed relays to pop my trunk, and lock/unlock my doors. But, my previous DEI unit didnt need any.

I am running late, if I had more time, I have some wiring diagrams on my other comp, that I could show you. BCM is under the drivers side dash, lock/unlock wires can be found there, trunk, you can use the light.

Helped out some. I got all week, so if you can please post up more help!

Oh yeah, big thanks to Dr. Phil for pointing out the obvious .

I understand the locks now, still don't know about the trunk. I need to tackle the locks tomorrow, too bad it's getting colder and snowing again!

Ok... you will need a relay for the trunk release.

There's a black with white tracer wire... comes off the Body Control Module (purple plug, pin A5) that goes to the trunk release. You need to hook up the relay to give that +12V...

The low amperage output on most alarms won't trigger it.

What alarm are you installing?

Great info John, all of which I was seeking and is very helpful. It is a Prestige alarm, I got it for next to nothing brand new thanks to a hookup, has everything I could ever need, and offers me the piece of mind I was seeking.

Can you confirm something for me-

alarm lock com. goes to - lt. blue pin A4 on violet plug at the BCM
alarm unlock com. goes to - white pin A3 on violet plug at the BCM

That's what I've come up with?

I need a good ole' 30 amp Bosch style relay right?

Yeah.. a 12 volt 30/40 amp relay might be needed to pop the trunk...

Sometimes the alarm doesnt put out enough current to pop the trunk... However, if you have a negative output on the alarm, you would have to use a relay to change the polarity...

The trunk wire needs to see 12v+ to pop it, not negative...

My alarm had a positive trunk output, and I didnt need to use a relay to increase the current, so it differs from brand to brand...

I would say wire up the trunk without a relay to increase the current and see if it pops.. You will still need to use a relay to swap the polarity though.

The trunk output from the alarm runs to terminal 85 on the relay..
Terminals 86, and 87 should see 12v positive.
30 should go out to the trunk latch.

I beleive this is correct... I will take a look @ my books later and post if it isnt.

That is correct

Awesome, I got the trunk thing sorted out, now I'm waiting on confirmation on this-

Then I need to read up on the entry illumination ground output situation I'm lost on.

Thanks guys, you're awesome, I went from totally afraid of installing this myself, to completely confident now.

ONE more ?, what's the easiest way to access the factory door pin? Thanks.

Thanks for confirming that! So that's all I need to do for keyless then, correct?

Judging by the looks of it, it is .

Let me read up on this last piece I'm confused on, and post back in a little.

REMAINING QUESTIONS :

1. The horn/OEM door pin are negative type systems correct? So I would connect the alarm to the negative sides, and not need a relay if I understand.

2. How do you pull out/access the OEM door pin?

3. This is the part that has left me completely clueless, I have the orange/red wires on the relay hooked up, however I'm LOST when it comes to the black and black/white wire coming off of it, and what I'm supposed to do (ignore my markings ), do I need 2 relays here or what-

THANKS!
