Hey everyone,
Im typing this for my friend, we are going to turbo his sunfire. I have a srt-4 with an upgraded turbo so I understand how this all works on a factory turbo car but I have a few questions about your cars.
We plan to run 6-8 psi on a 50 trim once we get it installed. This is what im thinking for my fuel system... Please answer any of these questions along the way if you can.
Upgraded fuel pump (Im assuming a walbro)
- Up to what PSI (boost) is the stock pump good for?
Aeromotive AFPR (The one that bolts directly onto the fuel rail, 1:1 boost reference)
- We will use this to set the base fuel pressure along with a 1:1 rising rate for boost
We were also thinking of getting a SFMU, but this is my question. If we get an emange with the injector harness would we still need an sfmu. With the correct size injectors and a 1:1 rising rate im not sure if we would need any additional fuel. The emange will be able to modify the duty cycle of the injectors and keep them held open longer.
For the guys using the emanage, im assuming your running the greddy presure sensor also, is this true? or does your stock map sensor ready boost as well?
Is the gm 3bar a direct replacement of the stock sensor?
What injector size do you suggest going with, I know on my car we have 750cc but I am also running alot more boost.
We want this setup to eventually support 14+psi.
Thanks for all the help!

not many people are using the EManage, but if you are interested, I may have one available with ign and injector harnesses... if you are interested in it let me know. I myself am using HP Tuners and have complete control over my stock VCM..... You keep saying 50 trim... 50 trim doenst mean squat... What size turbo is it??? It would also be more benificial to know what year/engine and other mods are/will be being used....

The turbo has a .60 a/r on the cold side, and we are going to either run a .48 or .63 on the hot side (what do you think will work better?) The car is a 05 sunfire (ecotec 2.2l)
Here is the turbo...

How much for the emanage?
Comin from a factory boosted car, im having trouble understanding how an safc would work on these cars. Im assuming your map sensor only reads vacuum is that true? Do you upgrade your map sensor?

We can't upgrade the MAP sensor unless we either flash the ECU to the GM S/C program, or use HP Tuners to tune the ECU. Yes it only reads vacuum. The SAFC will not work to adjust fuel, our fuel maps are not MAP sensor based, the only thing that it would modify is the timing table, since that is MAP based.
I would suggest, if you don't go with some type of HP Tuners, E-Manage, or GM S/C flash, is to get an adjustable FMU like the Cartech, a set of 440cc injectors, and start low psi and tune up from there. A wideband sensor is a MUST, keep the a/f's in the 12:1 range or richer.
Stock fuel pump is good to about 90 PSI, depending on what you have the FMU set at, that could be 5lbs of boost, or 15.
Personally, the ideal setup for me would be exactly what I have...

I also have a Cartech right now, but I'm going to try to tune that piece of my system out, it makes it hard to tune correctly.

Ok we are going to go with hptuners. Do you hook up an external aftermarket map sensor to the hptuners through one of its inputs? If so what map sensor are you running?
Also, we plan on using the aeromotive afpr which replaces the stock one on the fuel rail, do you see any issues with this?
how much boost would the 440cc's support and how much boost are you running?
Thanks for all the help, its really helping us make decisions!

You would install the new MAP sensor in the factory location, check the website under my sig for converting from a 1 bar system to a 2 or 3 bar system with HPT. It connects to the factory wiring.
No issues with the aeromotive on the rail that I know of, but I don't have an Eco.
440's will support 12-15 PSI depending on what you run for fuel pressure and how good you are at tuning, but like I said, its best to start low, and go higher. There are Eco's around here that are running 15+ PSI and doing it very well.
