Wideband Gauge Purpose

I've realized that I have very little idea of what a wideband 02 gauge does or is used for. Something with tuning and...yeah. If somebody could give me an explanation that would be awesome. I searched and found mostly brand reviews.

Its an accurate indication of your air/fuel ratio.

Wow that was fast!

Where is the sensor mounted?

In the exhaust pipe, 12-20 inches from the turbo.

I take it for a non-turbo application it would be where the header combines into 1 pipe?

Yeah, that would be a decent place to put it.

I wouldn't bother with one for an N/A car. You'd be fine getting it dyno tuned with a wideband and then using an EGT for daily driving.

it depends on how far he wants to go really.... for basic bolt on type stuff, yeah, but for headwork, cams, high compression, etc... he's already putting so much money into the motor than why not spend the $300 or so for the wideband.... Personally, I don't trust dyno widebands anyway, and if he's got a cat, well there goes the accuracy on that one...

I appreciate the help guys, hopefully, I won't be N/A for too much longer. I want to supercharge it using the GM Reflash as the FMU. I'd have a boost gauge and one more. Through wondering, searching, reading, searching again, pondering and finally deciding, I'm wanting to fill that second gauge spot with a Wideband 02 Gauge.

Since he was asking what a wideband did, I figured that wasn't the case.

Wideband is a must for boosted applications that like their motors.

that may be true for some gauges........ but for example the AEM UEGO they specify 36" away from the turbo and on a 10 degree angle........

so different gauges require different things.....

and FYI in my opinion the aem gauge is probably the easiest to use.... no free air calibration needed ... EVER...... and it's in a gauge form for around $300.00.................thay have come down A LOT in price.....
