Im new to boost. Help me build my turbo...5 psi Qs
Saturday, July 08, 2006 12:34 PM
like the topic says, im new to boost. im wondering a few things:

im looking at this kit for my 98 LD9:
http://www.jtuners.com/product_info.php?pName=24l-turbo-kit&cName=turbo-stage-1&osCsid=ca98e5e53eb5acee8968d62ccef962a7

is that a good kit for me to use to boost my engine? its a stock bottom end and stock internals. i dont want to upgrade any of that stuff yet, i just want a little boost to kick me into 14's. im running 15.4 now with minor bolt ons.

1) with that kit (5 psi) will i need diffrent injectors?
2) will 5 psi be ok on stock internals? will i need a boost controller?

You can't honestly ask a question that is asked over and over again because you're too lazy to search, scold the first few people that answer using comon sense, then expect everyone to rush to your aid.

first off, if you would read the rest of my posts on this site, you would see that i contribute and answer other people's questions far more then i ask my own questions.... but you are blinded by your own ignorance.

secondly, i searched and read the stickes mulitple times, and im not asking these questions in general...im asking them based on THIS PARTICULAR TURBO KIT FROM THIS PARTICULAR SITE.

you show me the sticky where it answers the questions i asked about that particular kit.

easy killer..

anyway, I'd say HPTuners and maybe 320 injectors. maybe a bit bigger to keep on the safe side. you should intercool it sometime later too.. all you had to say was "I plan on upping the boost later on" and no one would have said anything about the GM s/c. I only said it cuz it's very rational for 5 psi to run it. easy install all-in -one type kit. chill out.

maybe we are blinded by our ignorance, or your f%^k'n inability to read. You want info about that kit on your car, tell us info... where are you, what altitude? What other mods do you have? @!#$ you come off like a person who should get, "search" and they try to help you out, because obviously you have no idea what (and I quote)
Quote:

Expected gains are 50 horsepower with the 5psi setting.
what the hell does that mean to you? 40hp, no 50hp, idiot. Don't come on here and bitch because people try to help you out, cause you ask a newb question, and get a newb response.

You just want a turbo cause you saw it in a movie, and you liked the sound. Two of the best boosted guys on the site try and help you and you come off as a bitch. Well I am sorry, but you don't deserve help, and if you don't know if you need injectors,THEN YOU HAVE NOT READ @!#$ UNDER THE BOOST SECTION

maybe appologize to some of those people, and they will help you out more, the have the info you want, and will be more than happy to help someone. You never stated, "I wanna up the boost in the future" or " I do not want a supercharger." So calm down or I see no reason for you to ever post on this site again.

I swear people on this site kill me. If you can post a response to tell someone to do this or do that, then answer the question. Who cares how many times it has been asked. This is a forum.
Truly 5 psi should be good on stock injectors. You might start with 5psi but you are going to want more. A stock 2.4 tune correctly can take 10-12psi nicely. To do that kind of boost you would need bigger injectors, so get them up front so you have them. Since that kit is set at 5 psi you would not need a boost controller, unless you want to turn boost up (past the 5 psi).

true but i am just going to pray and hope not to get pulled over.

and whenever someone posts a question like i did here, i just click 1 little link and look in thier profile to see what mods they already have done. why did i need to post what i have done when its right there in my profile?

and what does it matter what i have done....thats not the question at hand. trust me- if i do turbo i plan on doing the supporting mods as well.

thanks for all who gave helpful replies.

dude. I got pulled over just for driving home from dennys for nothing.

they can pull you over just because the sky is blue and the grass is green.

Don't risk it, the price you pay for fines, fees, and what not, is not worth the trouble in my opinon. Ask Chad. FastEco/FastCav

he has a supercharger now but had a turbo for a while it's not worth it.

How bout i be the first/second to shifted to answer his question.

I'd say dont go with buying a kit. Way to much money and you don't really get all that you need. Here is what I'm in the process of doing so mabye it'll help you some.
"Super 60" 60/48 w/360 bolt down thrust from down2turbo on ebay. Shipped in 4days, had in 7 after auction. 375$
log manifold internally gated from happythoughts47 on ebay. 165$ ??forget how much exactly.

I'm getting my oil feed/return, bov, and intercooler piping with clamps all from a member on here for CHEAP! Look around in the classifieds and you can save lots of money. Heres a link to anothers registry to help you piece some of your kit together, you don't need e verything, but it's something to look at.
http://www.j-body.org/members/shaggy2m0/cars/1/
I'm only starting out with 6psi til I am really able to understand and i guess master the fmu and tuning part of it my self, then i'll go up to about 12 or so with new injectors and fuel pump afpr and whatever else. The turbos from down2turbo usually come with a 10psi actuator on the gate, Just go to atpturbo.com and buy their 6lb one with the bracket to match.

they come with a 10 PSI actuator? is it adjustable? (threaded) I was thinking that they would be at 7psi or something like that, I guess I could always lengthen the shaft, hmmm, I just ordered a t3/to4b from him. Shipped it out the next day and tracking says I should have it soon.

You can get all your mandrel bends of ebay too. Get all U bends and then you can cut them for whatever you need. you might need about a 5' piece of 2.5" piping too. You can build all you intercooler piping by yourself for about 100 bucks or so, but the you need t-bolt clamps and silicone too. Johhnyracecar.com has some good intercoolers for a good price but if you want something a little cheaper, ebay does have intercoolers too, just make sure if you get a cheaper one, get a bigger one, just to make up for the effiecency.

for 5psi, 310cc injectors will easily do it at factory fuel pressure, if you get an FMU your factory ones may be good for 5.

i was thinking about trying to buy some turbo stuff from the classifieds and from ebay, but im always reading horror stories on here about how people are getting ripped off in the classifieds or getting broken stuff from ebay.

it scares me to be honest. and i just asked those questions to see about what its going to get me having that kit on 5 psi. im still thinking about going all motor, and maybe running 14's.

my goal as of right now is mid to low 14's by the end of this year. i ran a 15.4 with my current mods, which you can see isnt much.

if i go all motor im probably going to do my cams, port/polish head, header and full exhaust and CAI.....and of course some slicks for the track next time. and hopefully i can hit my goal.

is ther a place where i can get the GM sc for a decent price? it just seems that some of the sites listed in other topics and stickies seem kinda expensive compared to a turbo setup.

and if i go turbo i do want to intercool it, and 5 psi is only temporary until i can do some other upgrades and internals, then ill turn it up to 12psi
.

G-force,
yea my wastegate is adjustable from 10psi down to mabye 6-7 with the threaded arm. I just figured i'd buy the atp 6lb actuator so I can avoid the lag that you may get by lowering the gate. 40$ I figure I might as well.

calicav I don't know how much you know about boosting but you can always take more time to research. Especially if it's your first boost project like mine. Hell, just take the time to save money and see what comes along (deal wise). that never hurts ....
