how much boost

i want to make my own turbo kit i have an 04 eco 2.2 i will probably use a 20g not real sure just a guestimate around what hp will the ecotec support hahn di 375 but ive been hearing 285 the motor gives did hahn do motor work. i also heard connecting rods and crank go first thats alot of money i have some money i dont have gazillions.

the ecotec is good up to 300 hp properly tuned. the weak part is the powder rods and the ring lands on the pistons.. 8 psi with an intercooler is a resonably safe boost level. 5 psi without one. rods and pistons are relatively cheap 300 for rods and 500 for pistons and rings.. that are capable of 30+ psi. i run 8 psi on my stock internals...

The Ecotec is good to OVER 300HP as I, and others have proven. I can't suggest to anyone that they run an unintercooled turbo system, even at only 5PSI or lower.

the crank definately is NOT a weak point. It is rated to 1000HP. The weak point is the ringlands and the rods as stated. My motor should be psuhing over 400HP at the wheels soon after its broken in and tuned. I have stage 2 head, rods, pistons, machining and a few other trick parts with my HRC 20G setup.

also the problem with pistons and rods is taking apart the bottom end i dont want to do all that if i did id build the motor

You kinda need to take the bottom end apart if you build the engine...

WOW...just wow. If your afraid to have to change the bottom end then just walk away now. Doing mine took a HUGE chunk out of my wallet but I still did it.

well most cars can get up over 300 hose without needing internals maybe i should give up because these cars aint worth nothin whats the crank worth when i havent seen a cav over 900 horse.

GM got over 1200 on the eco, stock crank I believe. If you got up to 700 on the eco, you'd be idolized here.

You want a 1200 hp car out of the box, buy a drag car. Cavaliers/Sunfires are econoboxes, they aren't going to do 500hp on stock internals.

So...

We didn't tell you what you wanted to hear, and you get pissed at us? You want a 300hp car, you need to PAY for a 300hp car. You can't double the horsepower of an economy car and expect it to come out smiling. If you can't afford to break something, or be without your daily driver, the last thing you should be doing is boosting it.

Well if you define what you want "quick" to be, we can tell you if you can achieve it reliably on a stock lower end...

Fill out your profile, tell us what kind of car you have. Different motors are rated for different stock lower end power levels.

Eric,

The people above have some pretty good information, however, If I were you, I wouldn't directly take advice from anyone on the jbo, I would just consider it. Mainly I say that, because when you blow up, the only person you can blame is yourself. A lot of people claim things, heck, they will even give an estimate of how much they think their car can do, what their car can do and even tell you about a place that they think does good work, just because they installed a turbo on their car and they feel like the owe it to the shop. Some people are hypocrites and straight up lie in an attempt to hypnotize or give you a false illusion of what they are. Also, just because one person didn't blow up at a certain amount of horsepower or boost doesn't automatically mean your engine can handle the amount. Doesn't matter if it is the same motor. Anybody can make an incredible amount of power on 1 to 3 runs on the dynojet. Consistency is what counts. If you do not have money for rods and pistons, I would stay around, 235hp which is about 285hp at the crank. No more than 8psi of boost.Even though I say this, I say you just think about it. Just for the simple reason that you have a turbo, you could still blow up on 5psi. Turbo is a ticking time bomb, so make sure you connect everything right, plan to blow up, try to keep the engine as cool as you can and be ready to replace parts. Sooner or later, your turbo will die, your injectors will need to be replaced, you may leak oil and a line may get burnt up. Take nothing for granted. Save up your money. If you have any questions, ask Bill Hahn Jr. himself. He is probably the only expert besides GM that can tell you about the Ecotec motor.

Also, me and some friends built a custom turbo setup for my car. I did everything to my specifications and I didn't have a choice at the time. Those are the only reasons why I went custom. You will spend more money going custom. I suggest you spend the money on the Hahn Kit.

I hope this helps you out. Good luck.

hell my 10 psi is def. a QUICK car.. I keep up with slightly modded TT 300 Z's Sti's and Evo's I am putting down 238 whp at 10 psi. Before tuning now that I am tuned maybe it is a tad more. It can be quick with a turbo kit no doubt
