Ecotec shot......plug smashed!!
Tuesday, August 01, 2006 2:11 PM
Well pulled the plugs today and the one the whole ways to the left looking at the block was smashed. Changed them out cause the car was sputtering and the check engine light came on but i just thought it was too rich. Went for a drive and no go.....jsut sputtering and then the check engine light started to flash. Went and got the code checked and its a misfire code. Im going to get some diagnostis read on it tomorrow but i can already ttell you i know the piston is shot gaurenteed. Another one bites the dust. Im thinking about fixing it and selling the car.

that sucks. i hope you don't sell the car. now you have an excuse to build the motor and turn up the boost.

btw, i think i saw your car yesterday driving on 22 in monroeville. it looked badass

smashed plug = rebuild time 9 outta 10 times

sounds like it detonated , and piston chunk hit the plug

Yea im gonna do some weisco pistons and eagle rods for right now I think and leave the boost down at 8 till I have the cash to put some valves in and do some other building I think. IM out a car right now so IM gonna be busting my ass to get it fixed. Makes me sick in the stomach to think about it.

actually ill bet he had happen what happened to mine and i was a slightly modded N/A,
same thing happened while going down the road on cruise control at 75 and lost all power spudder etc. everything you are experiencing. turned out the valve face broke of the valve stem and bounced around inside the cylinder, wasnt pretty, punched a couple holes in the piston, cracked the cylinder wall (not the sleeve) in the block itself, bent the rod and messed up the spark plug which of course messed up the threads in the head, and also with that piece bouncing around it mashed up the other valves in that cylinder needed a whole new engine wasnt able to rebuild it, mine was on cylinder # 2

i had 84XXX miles on mine when it happened

Your day will come...

the only day thats coming is the day I pull the motor in full working order to swap in the built one I am working on...

Airtonics I know you can drive, I just think you ran too lean or detonated

Now transmissions on the other hand I do tend to go breaky breaky on a bit tbut thats my fault

like 17 psi... but after thousands of miles he tore it down and he did notice signs of detonation, thats it. A good tuned motor will last longer then a turbo kit just thrown on a motor no matter who its made by.

Heres a piece of advice, if you were worried about blowing and breaking stuff, you should have never turboed youre car.

well yeah that makes sense in theory, but if you can remeber suncavi is tuning with a fmu and a safc. in know way would I consider that to be a "good tune" at least at that boost level.

im telling you some motors just have it in them and some dont. it only takes one @!#$ up and boom.

BTW im still sticking to my theroy of 02's being superior.

Ringland for sure. Sorry man, hope you didn't bang up the head too bad or scuff up the sleeves.
Jcavi, I did however run what you said and on the other hand where everyone strives to make that perfect tune I leave my rich to be safe at least. Some don't like that but I do.
Some might say properly tuned motor won't need to be rich to be safe but mine is not properly tuned. lol

by any chance.... was it plug #3 that was smashed? thats what mine was. slowly started to loose power 1 day driving. a/f went all crazy back and forth. then wouldnt hold boost or vaccum.. boost gauge just bounced between -5 vacum and 0. then died.

btw guys.. as far as the 02 and then 03-05 thing go. brandoson blew a few engines and his was an 02.

John, I KNOW you can drive.

Rodimus and I have a theory going that in 03 GM Changed piston material because it seems every blown 03+ was ringland and every blown 02 was a rod.. starting to be more coincidental then anything now
