Fuel pressure and AF numbers
Saturday, August 05, 2006 12:06 AM
Im not going into details on the subject i just need a simple answer honestly.

Is a low base fuel pressure a bad thing? My base pressure as of now is 20psi and stock is 57, I have it that low for a reason though so dont worry about that. My AF at idle is 14:7 and 11:5 at WOT, but that low base pressure conserns me.

Is a low base fuel pressure a bad thing? Can it hurt anything at all?

The PCM can compensate for the low fuel pressure with a longer pulse width. But, with a low base fuel pressure you may not get proper fuel spray and atomization out of the injectors. Which may cause fuel puddling. Just something to think about.

Ding, ding, ding. You definitely don't want to drop too low on FP, not sure how low is too low though. Without you saying what else you've got for fuel control, hard to give any advice on how to improve the situation.

once again not asking for advice. simply asking about low fuel pressure.

And ccfab, I have no secret just no need to tell you what the hell im doing. ok with you.

Opionion: I would keep the fuel pressure around 30 - 40p.s.i. Reasons puddling(SPDDMON) which can lead to improper combustion in the cylinders. I had a friend with a turbocharged saturn who went through two sets of factory pistons due to Detination. But this is only my opionion and I am not sure on your setup or the methods you have available for tuning.

Ok fine ill still the details so i can be shanked by everyone .

I maxed out the injectors that came with the GMPP supercharger package, Started running lean at WOT. Checked the pump and fuel pressure and all was fine. So I added a set of ford #39 injectors so thats what a 2lb increase?! Well now I've had to lower the fuel pressure via Aeromotive AFPR to get a nice 11:5 AF at WOT.

No I do not have HPT, No im not getting it anytime soon, So all the HPT natzis keep your comments to yourself. Pleanty of people were boosted before HPT and with out a standalone and did just fine.

Lets here how crappy my setup is...

I'm not sure what the eco GMSC injectors are, but the 2.4 comes with 30lb/hr injectors, so that would be a 9lb/hr increase. Jump in and let me know if the eco's kit came with bigger injectors, but that doesn't sound like too bad a fuel system, HPT or not. Do you have your own WB, or are you going off dyno results?

the 20psi means the fuel pump doesnt have to work its ass off

the only down side is it doesnt give you the tel tale signs when it goes bad

and you know ive been running my cav the same way for around a year , and have not had any issues , but im at 30 psi

like i told ya , if your not haveing any problems off boost , and no transistion problems from off boost to on boost , and back the other way , then you should be ok

you migh wanna try raising the pressure up a few psi , then driving it under boost and off , for a day and see if the pcm adjusts the maping and keeps it in the same afr range

mine will show a drop into the low 10's when i go from no boost and into boost , then comes back up to the mid 11's
