Turbo intake not enough room!!!
Tuesday, August 08, 2006 7:17 PM
im stumped. i have the 4 speed auto in my 04 cavalier. the only thing that i have left to do is get the intake pipe onto the turbo. i have the hahn stage 2 kit and thats the only problem im running into. im really nubbish about these things so i dont really know what words i can use for the thing that gets in the way. its right on top of the transmission and when i pull it it seems like it enguages and disenguages my transmission. does anyone that has turboed an auto cavi know how to fix this problem or to even go around it? thanks for anyones input!

The hahn stage 2 kit is only for Manual transmissions...

I can't see why you couldn't make it work for an auto. Just have to change the piping because the auto tranny is bigger, right?

yes the auto tranny is bigger, i already have the chargepipes ran and everything. this is the last thing that i need to do, and i cant figure out how to get around it. yes its only for manuals, but can be used with the automatic, just the chargepipes need to be ran differently, now i see that the intake one isnt quite working out either.... thats what i need to try and figure out what everyone else did that has a turboed auto... it doesnt look like a smaller intake pipe would work either...

I hope you don't destroy your transmission. That's the biggest issue with the auto trans is it likes to eat itself up at part throttle.

if i could take a pic it would be nice.... theres really no way for me to take a pic to show people. is there anyone around the columbus, georgia area that might be able to help! yeah i havent really been pushing stuff around or moving things, i think i might just end up doin a tranny swap, but how long does it take do to the actual swap?

Just the intake? screw it, just put a screen over it and clamp it. Or go find a filter that fits

lol, i would think of putting a screen in front if it wouldnt be for all that hot air coming off the engine that would be going straight into the turbo. im gonna see if the exhaust shop can make me a sharp 90 degree bend and turn it into an S bend... i think that would work....

well also remember this, the temp of the air being consumed by the turbo isnt ALL that critical anyways, especially in a lower boost setup. the turbo is going to compress even cold air and heat the crap out of it.

the gains in hp are made by having a nice efficient intercooler setup.

yeah i didnt think of it that way either... so the air going into the turbo wouldnt hurt the turbo if its already that hot?? cuz if not then @!#$... ill find some kind of jimmy rig to make it work till i can get my tranny swap here.... car isnt daily driven either so thats a good thing...

yeah, the air just gets compressed and hearted to a predestined temp anyhow.

Have an exhaust or custom welding shop make a peice of pipe to come off the turbo and bolt on an air filter. My t3/t04 has a 3" opening on the intake side, and I just used some silicone coupler to hold the pipe on to the turbo. The Filter I am using is a cheap-o 3 " Spectre air filter from Autozone until I can find the K+N that is the right size and works better.

im gonna stop at the exhaust shop today during my lunch to see if i can get them to make me a 90 degree bend to stick on there... if that doesnt work then im just gonna make a screen to fit on the end of it... when the cars running ill take the car there and get them to go over everything and make sure the whole thing is good.
