I turboed my 03 cav around three months ago...Hahn stage 2 kit and srt-4 plugs. my problem is that i am only hitting around 5 psi on the gauge with my normal exhaust and 7-8 psi when i open up my exhaust dump (butterfly valve style). With the open dump i get 224.5 hp at the wheels. does that sound accurate? i want more power and i think i could get it if i get a boost controller to boost the turbo to 10-12 psi. But at what psi will it blow?
and my wastegate is opened up all the way.... and only hittng 7-8psi. and i'm still running way too rich. at full throttle i'm at high 10's- low 11's. Help? i just want to know if i can do more, because i've heard you can get a lot more power out of it..
any sort of advice would really help....
Ok, so you're telling me that at 7-8 psi you have 224WHP? That's about 270BHp. That's a 120hp gain. I say impossible on 7psi.

I made 222WHP on 8PSI and posted the sheet to prove it. Wanna call me a liar too? Oh and what about the other 3-4 people that have nearly identical numbers?

Oh and figuring 10% loss its only about 250BHP....not 270BHP.

the internal wastegate on hahns base kit comes with a 8psi spring. u need a boost controller or different wastegate spring to go higher.
i ran 12psi on the 16g for around a year. then 18-20psi for 2-3 weeks before it blew. got the new built engine in now with the 20g and 15psi spring. i hit 15-16psi. gonna hook up the profect s to go higher.

if hes running a bigger turbo its possible, i have a buddy making damn near 350 on 12 psi, 140 stock
If he's running the HRC Stage 2 kit he is using the Super 16G turbocharger.

Rick: Shoot me an IM or email later tonight and I'll help you out. I made 260WHP @ 12PSI on my car with the same setup. I'll tell you what we had to do and get you the parts you'll need.

possible, yes. but not with it running uber rich...

12:1 AFR across the board isnt uber rich.....unless I missed something somewhere.

yeah you did hyspy

Oh no....I saw that. I still don't see why he couldn't do it with 11:1 AFR. I had mine that low at first and the car still made 218WHP. We leaned it back a little, made more power, leaned a little more, made more power, leaned more, made the same power, so we fattened it back up to be safe. I don't see why he couldn't make that at 11:1 AFR for ANY reason.
I put that because he quoted me, making me think it was a direct response to me and having nothing to do with the OP.

im made 185 months ago on an untuned 5psi and I still can pick up plenty of power so i see no reason thats impossible to make 220+ on 7psi, psi means nothing really its about volume and efficiency
1989 Turbo Trans Am #82, 2007 Cobalt SS G85
i might post the dyno run results later...but i promise it's a 224.5 hp and 211.7 torque with open butterfly.
and if the only thing that brakes are the rods at 280 hp, then can't i just upgrade the rods...i found some for the ecotec earlier today at lmperformance.com. i really wnt more power.....i wanted around 350...is that too much to ask?
not really if you upgrade the motor. id look into the ecotec engine build book. it will show you everything you will need for certain power and why.
I got 236hp on 8psi today on dyno with the help of HP tuners. I'll be getting back on it this weekend. Gonna turn up the boost!
Way to go man. Those are the numbers we like.

you are very wrong my friend... i made 230whp @7psi on a Mustang dyno of all dynos
The First Twin Charged jbody
blue car (R.I.P) - 240whp @7psi..
silver car - 305whp 315lbs.tq @15psi (91 Octane) or 420whp & 425lbs.TQ @20psi (94 octane+Alcohol Injection)
All dynos run on a Mustang dyno

the mustang is also probably the 6 cyl.
i made 354whp @12psi
long long ago,
230ish around 7psi sounds about right..........

Read it again buddy. He made the power on a MUSTANG DYNO...not in a Mustang.

my bad lol
354whp @12psi is really nice
Boardorgohome wrote:its not PSI that will break the motor its horsepower...
i wouldnt push it too much farther or you are going to break your rods, they break in the ecos around 280 i believe so dont push it or you are going to be without a car.
I thought it was torque.... horsepower cant be made without torque
