ok, so from what I have seen and searched the main reason that the LD9 2.4 TC has a low redline is because of the factory oiling system. Does the valve terrain need any aftermarket parts to spin faster or is stock good enough...
reason I am asking is, I have been throwing the idea around to redo a head for my engine over winter and have it on for spring. I have done the oil pump swap, and built the bottom end... so I am confident that is all strong enough.. but I am curious which parts and pieces to put in the top end.
I have also read rumors that around approx 17-19 psi, the stock valves float (with stock springs), I was curious if anyone can back up that info and enlighten me on a solution. Is it possible that on weaker springs with 50k or 100k could start floating at low pressure numbers like 13-15?

I used HO springs on a otherwise stock setup...... stock lifters and such.....
You need the HO springs, retainers, and the things from under the intake valves...... cant think of what their called....... and the 2.4 locks...... for them to work in the 2.4 head

so thats pretty much it, then I am setup for higher redline... cause I really wanna spin this thing faster next year... the rod ratio is pretty screwed up on the 2.4 L engine though

Stock terrain* holds up just fine at 7,200rpm.

I have heard rumors that under high hp, the timing assembly (mainly the gears) become a concern when revving high enough (ld9). Would 7200 be enough to break any of the timing components? Believe Karas was revving to 7400, and 7200 would be quite close to that. Anyone have any cures ofr this? I know the head will hold the revs, but how about the timing assembly???
Oh, karas broke something in the timing assembly at 7400. Forget to mention that.
His issue was the crank timing chain gear cracking at I think 7300 or 7400 rpm.
I would look at more than that gear though - there is a reason the 2.3 had a double roller and the ecotec has 2 small chains to run their setup which is ok for high RPM's...

Mike's motor is the only one i have ever heard of having those problems. I know there isn't many of us reving over 7k but just because one motor had a problem doesn't mean its going to be everyone's problem.
My motor has seen 7,200 rpm hundreds of times, using stock valve springs and hotter cams than most, making more power than most cars on this site. I have never had any problems.
Again, just because i'm not having problems doesn't mean someone else won't, just like just because Mike did doesn't mean others will. More people need to push the limits of their stock parts in order to find out what that actual limit is.

Well after speaking to a bunch of people on the subject 6 months ago and sitting down with the motor and speaking with Mev and the such, everything possible to improve the timing chain / gear setup on the car was done, as well as the obvious valvetrain work needed. I just didn't want to take anything to chance...
It all depends on how ballsy you are - I remember somebody (maybe adler) saying to me that Karas had no issues under his breaking RPM, just when he went above it.

the best thing you can do for the valve train is ligthen it. (in terms of rpm related issues). so, titanium locks, retainers, and even lighter weight valves if you wanted to go extreme. personally i would put some ho cams in if you havent already, maybe adjustable gears while your at it. i dont think there is light weight lifters availabe for this motor (apparently check on 60degreev6.com, someone has got lightweight lifters for the 3.4 dohc motor, maybe these will fit or the same company can make you some). i would also upgrade the valve springs, making sure to keep the conical beehive design to reduce resonance.

They're stock 2.3HO springs I believe, single coils.

can both intake and exhaust valve springs be used on the 2.4 head? The springs would then need the HO seats, and retainers correct?
Dont forget the Balance shaft assembly, i have a feeling that has a lot to do with the RPM's as well.
Does anyone know the gm part numbers for the HO springs?

Does anyone know the actual difference between 2.4 springs and 2.3HO springs? A friend of mine actually measured and compared the spring rates a long time ago, can't remember what they were but i think they were pretty similar. Something you guys might want to look into....

I would hope nobody is using unknown springs on their motors...I know I'd like to feel confident they weren't going to be binding or floating...

The stock spring rate can be found on Mantapart site.
Spring rate of 75-80 lbs installed @ 1.437" and 205 lbs @1.043".
They can take around .450" of lift but the top end will suffer. The max they can go from seated to bind is .500" when I tested them.
