Mileage limit for boosting?
Friday, October 27, 2006 10:31 AM
Hey guys:

Don't know if this question has ever been asked before, but search results came up empty. My '04 Cav just hit 39k, and I have plans for the Hahn kit. Question: Is my mileage getting too far up there to safely boost, or is there really no magic mileage limit, given that the engine has been properly maintained, etc. ?

Thanks in advance.

NO...it's NOT a freakin' Honda!!!

I had 26K on mine when I boosted. If your worried....build the motor There really isn't a magical number though, more based on care.

I used to race cars, now I race myself.

I can't speak from experience with a J-body but we boosted my brothers 1.8 talon at 120,000 miles and no problems. As long as the motor has been taken care of you are fine. especially with the ecotec motor I wouldn't second guess it but the old school 2.2 lol I wouldn't even want an intercooler to come neaR THAT ENGINE BAY. lol but with the eco you should be fine. I am at around 55,000 on my eco and Im going boost as well.
But like I said it just comes down to how well you took care of the motor. I have seen Motors with 2000 miles blow with aftermarket boost and I have seen motors with over 170,000 still pushing boost. It just depends on how well the set up is done and the health of the motor.

i boosted my 2.2 2200, with 104000 miles on it, and i didn't care the best of care of..i did regular maintence and everything but i beat the hell out of it..

when the starter went out the motor still had good compression ~170 across the board, and it was running 12 psi daily..

there is no magic number for mileage..

I boosted my Ecotec at a little less than 60k miles. No problems as of yet.

basicaly if you feel the motor is too old...it is

39k doesnt sound like much at all.

I may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.

Ha ha, only 39K, that is hardly broken in. I boosted my eco at 81K, the car is at almost 106K, and there are no major issues.

I've got 150,000 miles on mine and plan to run 8 psi, mileage isn't the killer -> detonation and poor tuning are
