Ok, so i have the skills to do this, I have the funds to do this. I have the access to getting parts discounted to do this.
I need to know what kind and type of parts to boost my z24. This winter i am garaging the car and pulling the motor. Im getting a low mileage motor and rebuilding it. Forged pistons, rods, bearings, the works. I have decided to leave the head alone for now but i am going to put a HO manifold on. Now i know the obvious parts to get, what i dont know is what i would need because i am looking to run 7psi, but i want to be able to run 10psi max.
The obvious:
Turbo............Im going with a t3, havent bought one yet so advise on choosing one is greatly appreciated.
Wastegate (Internal or external)
Manifold.........wherever i can get one at.......
Turbo downpipe Flange
Bolts for turbo and downpipe flange
Downpipe
Braided oil lines with fittings
2.5" Pipe for charge pipes
Connectors and clamps for pipes
BOV and flange
FMU (I'd go cartech adjustable personally)..............what ratio should i get????
Bigger Injectors ............. probably going to need them for 10psi........what ones should i use and where do i get them??
Inline/In tank pump................going with a blazer ho pump..........
Boost controller
MSD-DIS 2 ......................Is this needed????
TB Plenum...............for what????
Lots of misc vaccum hose
Rubber Fuel lines for FPR
Oil and oil filter (for the obvious reason)
Gaskets
Gasket sealer
Air filter
Intercooler ...................what size should i get??
Some spare metal brackets for custom mounting the Intercooler
Misc bolts (self tapping), and Nut/bolt combos
Gauge pod
Boost Gauge, EGT gauge
The not so obvious:
timing..................what to do for it????
Fuel.............im assuming that the fuel pump, FPR and injectors will take care of this problem??
FPR...........what one to go with?????
Fuel Pump...........Is it the Blazer pump i am looking for and what year is it?????
Map Sensor...............Do i need a 2bar or will the one i have now work fine???
Anything else i might of forgotten...........?????????????
Im not looking for any smart ass answers guys, im not looking for any lectures either......im looking for HELP. Not trying or wanting to be a smart ass but answers to the questions i asked would be greatly appreciated...... l"ll be the first to admit i do NOT know everything with what im doing but its going to be a great learning experience for me. Im very mechanically inclined and i know what im doing, i just need guided on the right path. Ive built the motor in my last car and i know what im doing when it comes to putting a motor together, ive just never went Forced Induction. I am basically looking for what parts to go with................Thanks guys, Chris

Chris:
Looks like a big undertaking here my friend. The fact that you have the skills, money and etc to do this doesn't matter. You'll need the knowledge on how everything comes together to give you the 7psi you want.
My first question is, have you done the research on this?
Secondly, yes you'll need to have the head worked on - you cant expect a built motor to take that abuse on a stock head with an HO manifold? You'll blow that motor faster than a fat kid eats cake.
Although I'm not the one to be posting as I am boosted courtesy of a GM Blower kit, I however know your enthusiasm is large. So was mine. I spent the better part of three years researching and learning about the blower and what I could do with it to have some fun and not kill my wallet. I'm going to have to say that you'll need a lot more research before you start this project, or your going to get flamed fast, lose interest really quick, or put it together in haste and not have it work out for you.
I don't want to be the guy to say it, but, you need to learn more before you go out doing all this.
i know what i needed to research and this is how i do it. This is my research and with answers like that im going nowhere fast. I need answers to the questions i asked so if someone knowledgeable could answer them id greatly appreciate it. Thanks

If you're only going ro run 7-10 psi, I wouldn't think you'd need forged internals. But, I'm no expert on the 2.4. I say that not knowing what size turbo you're going to use.
Don't base your goal in psi, base it on horsepower, that way you can see where different parts of the the stock engine begin to break. It's very possible that you won't need forged internals. But like I said, I'm no expert on the 2.4.
As far as the fuel pump...I don't know much about it. Depending on your horsepower goals, you may be able to use the stock one with larger injectors.
You won't need and MSD DIS-2. A nice accessory to have, if you want one, I bought one and never used it. I may be willing to let it go.
The FMU...see if you can get the 2.4 supercharger reflash, and then retune it with HPTuners. It will be more difficult, but the potential for a better running car is so great. I'd look into it.
If you get the supercharger reflash, your motor will automatically pull timing when it detects knock. Going this route, you'll may have to get a map sensor that can read boost. Or, for timing, you could use the DIS-2 to retard timing.
Hope that helps.
If you are going to take the time to build the motor and all you should want to run more than 7-10psi. Take a look at my setup under my name. If you want to talk further and ask questions I would be more than happy to help you either by e-mail of Aim.

t3 turbo with internal wastegate, (down2turbo ebay)
manifold (happythoughts ebay)
oil lines are pretty simple to hook up (any farm supply shop can custom make them
you can get the GM reflash, I recommend doing that before you do the kit, put injectors in and drive it pig rich to GM and get it reflashed, then install the map. and make sure you take you oil pan off and get a bung welded in before you start, do it tonight even. Get 1/2" pipe thread tig welded on, and buy a plug. (make sure you mark the pan before you remove it, the coolant line can be a bitch)
you can tune the reflash with HPT or just use the injectors with a begi 2025 set around 4:! or something.

ive decided to go with a t25 garrett turbo
Do i need the fmu if i go with bigger injectors and the gm reflash along with a 2 bar map???

Why only a t25? That's a small turbo. A lot of people use the Super 60 and really enjoy them.
You will need bigger injectors, I think the Gm reflash uses 310 cc injectors, but with HPTuners, you can make it run perfectly on larger injectors.
You won't need the fmu at all.
The super 60 is pretty awesome in just about any gear lol. I got mine from down2turbo also off of ebay.

ok so im gonna go with a super 60 turbo, FMIC, 310cc injectors, MSD 2 bar map sensor and i talked to the service manager at the local chevy dealer and he said he would reflash the computer for like 80 bucks. Do i need to install the map sensor before i get the reflash?? im not going to even start this car before the reflash. im going to have it towed to the dealer. And last but not least, do i need to use an FMU??? if so, what ratio am i lookin at??? thanks

^ Make sure you're positive about the 310 cc injector size. Like I said before, I'm not completely sure about it. I don't want to be the reason your cars blows up.
Before you even thinking about starting the car, I would HIGHLY recommend you have a wideband 02 gauge installed. Do it before installing your turbo, do it while its drivable now. Same for a boost gauge.
Also, the MSD 2 bar map sensor sounds like a good idea, but make sure thats a direct replacement for your current 1 bar map sensor. If not, then everything will be off. A 2 bar map sensor will limit you to 14.7 psi, just fyi.
If you're having your car towed to the dealership, then have everything installed and ready to go before the towtruck comes to pick it up. You should be fine driving it to the dealer though. Keep an eye on your boost gauge and do not go into boost or you will blow it up. For that sized turbo, boost will hit around 3,000 rpm me thinks. So driving shouldn't be a problem, just let it idle for 5 minutes or so before driving it so it can warm up.
THE REFLASH IS YOUR FMU. I capitalized that because I had a lot of trouble getting that through my head too.
Also, you're going to need a cone filter if you don't have one, and the exhaust could be a problem too.
What I would do is this: Bolt your turbo to your manifold, bolt it onto the motor, run your charge pipes to the throttle body, keep your stock injectors. Drive it to the exhaust shop, have a custom downpipe made from the turbo and run that into a 2.5" hi flow catalytic converter and muffler. Walk in there with the cat and muffler, have them fab up the pipes. Again, while you're driving, stay out of boost and keep an eye on your boost and wideband gauges.
Once you're ready to have the reflash done, install your larger injectors, start the car, watch it run incredibly rich, make a mental note of the air/fuel ratio. When the dealer reflashes the ecu, look at your wideband, if it is idling leaner and not blowing black smoke out of the exhaust you're good to go.
Always let the car warm up to the regular operating temperature before hitting boost. The first time you go wide open throttle, keep your eyes on your wideband gauge and make sure it doesn't go too lean. I'd be worried if it was leaner than 12.5:1 or so.
Almost forgot, don't forget a blow off valve or you'll back up the turbo. Turbos don't like that.
After that, congratulations, you have a functioning turbo kit.
Thanks alot Admiral, you've been very helpful in my quest for boost. As for the little things like the gauges and BOV i know i need them, i just wanted to discuss the major things that i wasnt sure about. Like i said, i know how to work on cars, i just wasnt too sure about how to make things work with the j platform. Im going to try to get ahold of the injectors that come with the supercharger kit and use those.

You're on the right track with the forged internals, if you're going to all the trouble and expense to build a new motor then do it right. Wiesco forged pistons, Hellfire top Total seal 2nd standard oil rings, Eagle forged rods, coated rod & main bearings, 2.3 oil pump conversion, ARP head & main studs and on my turbo buildup I'm having a main girdle made to tie all the main caps together for strength. For the head you can port & polish the 2.4 head and use stainless steel valves, HO springs & retainers, secret or modified HO cams, or like me same work on the 086 HO head with W41 cams. Get the HO intake and have it Extrude Honed, with a bigger tb, front mount IC, for injectors that depends on the hp level you plan to run, but size your injectors so that they don't exceed 85% duty cycle. I'm going to use HP Tuners software with a wideband O2 to tune but by using the best parts in your bottom end then you're ahead of the game if you decide to up your boost later. The big key is to tune the car to avoid detonation at all costs, this is why I'm also going to use water/methanol injection.
2000 Z24 5spd header & catback for now.
^ He probably won't need the forged internals for 7-10 psi.
The internals are good for ~280 horsepower. (Thanks Chris)
If you plan to make more than 280 horsepower, then a build is definately in order.
