wondering if anyone on here has run crush bent or compression or w/e its called.....how much loss am i gonna lose running that compared to mandral bend???
Thanx Charles
no and there is a reason.
crush=ripples=disruption in flow=bad
compression= shrinks in bends=restricted flow unless you properly size pipes=OK
I may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
well yes i know this....hahaha but im wondering how much differance it would make....
Thanx Charles
For the same price you can by mandrel U bends on the internet. I tried the whole crush bent exhaust from the auto stores and let me tell you I was much happier later even tought I was another $90 in the whole when I just purchased U bends.
~Boost. Its what's for dinner!~
Put it this way ...
Crush flow is HAHA.
And madrel bent flow is smooth , so no HA HA.
Do you understand it now?
compression is ok but its not ideal
crush no way
I may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
honestly i'm running crush bent charge pipes with a rear mounted turbo and if you think about it the charge pipes have air being forced through them. it doesnt really matter how perfect your charge pipes are. i'm sure there's a couple horse gain from crush bent to mandrel, but if you can't do mandrel yet just get crush bent and upgrade later like i plan on doing.
on an intake you have air being pulled through so you want that smooth unrestricting bend of a mandrel style pipe.
with a turbo or supercharger you have the air being FORCED through. regardless it's going to hit your boost mark. i don't have a problem at all and i honestly have one pipe that is CRUSHED flat practically for clearance issues.
Try it. then upgrade to mandrel later. IT WORKS FINE!!!
you will likely not notice any difference. but mandrel looks way better. 2.5" is over kill any way you look at it.
HP Tuners | Garrett T3/T04B | 2.5" Charge Pipes | 2.5" Downpipe | 650 Injectors | HO Manifold | Addco front/rear | Motor Mounts | HKS SSQV | Spec stage 3 | AEM UEGO Wideband | Team Green LSD | FMIC | 2.3 cams | 2.3 oil pump swap | 280WHP | Now ECOTECED
thats what i thought.....well i got a shop that will do it all my charge pipe for around 60 bucks.....and its compression bend not crushed or w/e i know mandral would be a lot better but for the numbers im gonna be pushing i dont think it would hurt me much if at all being as its all being forced threw the motor by the turbo.....thanx guys
Thanx Charles
yea people on hear are such @!#$ lemings.
if you want to learn to weed threw the BS try looking for facts to back up there claims as opposed to stupid bs comments
Crush vs manderal is not going to make any difference in the numbers you are running. becuase you are forceing the air threw the pipes. it might create a bit of turbulance in the piping, but its not going to hurt your nimbers. unless you want the looks or your looking for huge numbers dont worry about manderal.
and for those that say other wise. look up the charge times for a 3 inch IC pipe. its something like .03 seconds off of a fully spooled turbo.
"
Kick azz is my boost hero!!! "
^^^it will hurt your numbers.....turbulence = friction = losses
Mandrel will give you less losses.....if all you want to do is run a turbo and get a quick 5psi or something then it its no big deal.
If you trying to get down the track in a GOOD time go mandrel.
Lee did.
Genious!
NO LAG!!!!!

thanx guys tahst what i thought im not goin for looks....i jsut want to run like 11psi at most is that gonna cuz a whole lot of power loss compared to someone else whos on 11psi with mandral bent charge pipes????
Thanx Charles
*shakes head*
So what you're all saying is that I don't need to match my exhaust ports or intake ports becase the flow won't matter because I'm putting boost through them anyway?
Heck why even match flanges in that case.
Flow is flow. Turbulence is turbulence. No matter how you try and crunch the #'s any disturbance in airflow costs you power. Having too many elbows, bends, ripples or disturbances in the airflow will cost you power. Why do you think there is such a thing as a good intercooler and a bad intercooler? Because poorly designed cores with badly designed endtanks cost you pressure and flow, hampering spoolup and costing you an overall pressure drop across the system.
blow air through a straw. now crush that straw almost flat and blow again. Oh look - look at how much HARDER you have to work to blow that air through that crushed straw. You're telling me you want your turbo to work it's ass off because you wanted to crush a pipe flat? I don't think so. You just significantly decreased the volume of flow.... volume is a huge thing in a turbo system.
Boost doesn't make up for stupidity people. CFM, Flow, Turbulence, backpressure.... all of these things matter and are compounded by badly built turbo systems.
The #'s don't lie.... neither do physics.
Go look at any well-built aftermarket turbo system. Show me a crush bent pipe, or even a pipe that's been flattened out.
I find it unbelievable that so many people brag about a mandrel bent exhaust and then go and crush bend charge pipes and get a $50 ebay intercooler and then bitch because they're barely getting 8-9 hp / psi.

^^ no thats not what im saying....i know its gonna hurt me hp wise i was just wondering how much compared to mandrel haha have a cow man jeeze it was just a ??? haha
Thanx Charles
Charles, I was replying to the people who said it's a waste of money.
It in fact, is not. It all depends on what you want to see out of your turbo kit. We all have different goals. Some just want a bit more power, some want every drop they can squeeze out... others are in between. How deep are your pockets?
Crush bent is a bad idea, no matter what. Compression bent, well it compromises the diameter of the pipe on the bends but it's not the end of the world. Mandrel is of course best but it costs more obviously...
Also, what you make your pipes out of affects things too. Not in terms of flow, but heat.
Overall if you're on a budget, compression bent pipes won't kill you. Just please... PLEASE don't crush one of them flat.
Nobody's going to be able to tell you how MUCH loss you'll see... that would be like predicting where lightening will strike next. It all depends on how you do things.
Good luck with your turbo kit.

haha alrite just wasnt sure and no i will not go with crush bent.....it would be compression....no one in this state from what i have heard has a mandrel pipe bender.....and for 60 bucks compression bent sure beats 125 for mandal u bends and then to get them all cut and welded on top of it.....whats the best type and a decent type of metal to use for the pipeing???
Thanx Charles

I could, but I dont care that much.....just use mandrel and move on.
I ran my 12.8@110 with muffler shop compressed bent pipes..... didnt hurt me at all......
