425hp ecotec engine swap?
Sunday, November 05, 2006 5:11 PM
well i was searching around a site i rememberd viewing a while back and they have a 425hp 2.2L ecotec built engines for sale for off road dune buggies.... but my question is wouldnt it still fit into a 2003 Cavalier?

i guess what im asking is if i change the intercooler set up to a front mount and change the exhaust to a down pipe and probably move the filter so it will fit would this engine (in the link below) work in a Jbody?

http://www.turnkeyenginesupply.com/Sand/22425.htm

if so i think i have my new project

blue car (R.I.P) - 240whp @7psi..
silver car - 305whp 315lbs.tq @15psi (91 Octane) or 420whp & 425lbs.TQ @20psi (94 octane+Alcohol Injection)
All dynos run on a Mustang dyno

Judging from the pictures your big issue may be firewall clearance.

Best bet would be to e-mail them and ask about dimensions. You'd probably need to modify the scoop on top so that air would flow better into it.

That is an awfully low rev limit for that kind of power.

dont know if your aware but GM Performance has an actual ecotec engine build book that explains everything and also lists part numbers for everything needed in build kits for eco's that will push anywhere from 250 to 1200 horsepower.............do it that way, it will be alot better

Thats sweet! My uncle bought his motor for his sand rail car from them but he didn't get that one. I would love to see one of those droped in a j-body.

oh you mean with the turbo mani? yea that i could fix no problem... i emailed them to see if they new any thing about this too

already have.. thats the twin charged one... which is still crunched from the crash... im going to buy a 03 Cavy though and turbo it as well... so hence this idea

yea i just finished emailing them... but the intercooler i would put in the front... so i would see that part and make it a front mount intercooler

yea seen that
i just want somthing like a crate engine like this to drop in ... and change a few things like intercoler, turbo mani (maybe) and probably computer... i did the 2.4L twin charge project (which is still on going )but i only wana to take that to about 300whp (at 230 right now) and have the cavalier as my new project car

well the manifold would be no problem i got the guys who made my 2.4L one so i could get that easy and the scoop i wouldnt do... i would turn it into a Front mount intercooler...

Sorry, I didn't mean to come off as a jerk with my last statement.

I just meant that I think it's cooler to build your own motor like you did with your LD9 than it is to buy one already built up.

Does this builder have any relation to the guy who is blowing up ecos?

2 ecos in 2 days post!

GM Racing and all the records they've set with the Eco = Roush

Last i heard (couple years ago now) they were making over 1500hp on the Eco.

Most of the GM Performance Parts crate motors are built at Roush.

Roush also developed both the Eco and LD9 GM Performance Parts supercharger kits, so it looks like you already have some Roush parts on your car.

does roush even mess with gm engines? thought they were mainly ford engine based builders?

for 11k you can build a much better engine.. plain and simple.

Josh F what numbers were you throwing down with your twin charge setup? hp/tq? any updated vids?

sorry to get off topic just remembered who you were when i looked at your profile.

for $11K given you already have the car you could easily have an eco with full racing suspension, seats, rollcage, tires wheels exhaust and at least as much power as that engine is making.

So I say its a waste of money.

If you're interested in selling either the s/c kit or the turbo....or both let me know!

i put down 231whp and 228lbs/tq @7psi ... but i hit 231whp just under 4000rpm (with a 3" supercharger pulley on) and it held strong right up to the 7000rpm limiter didn't drop off at all... i will try to track down the dyno sheet though.... it was fun though since no matter what i had my boost set to i would hit full boost VERY! quick... it was defiantly a fast car off the line... best race/win i had with it in that week was against my neighbour's 2003 SVT mustang...

i only had it tuned for a week when i was hit so i didn't get much time with it... but i did have it turned up to around 10psi and i raced a Sti a few times all from rolls and took him no problem and i wanted to get a dyno done with the 10psi but the car is sitting in pieces and all crumpled in my garage now
this is what it looks like now:

*oh and it was checked over... no frame/structure damage at all... just air bags went off * still not a right off though

and yea sure 11K is a lot but its all built up for you ready to go... iv done the build up already... don't know if i wana do that again.. or just play with something that comes "stock" with 400hp.... every thing is taken care of and done... for the most part... plus i want something with huge hp and i went to go pick up a TT Z06 from the states but insurance for me on a Z06 here is NUTS!!!! so i need to keep with the economy cars for a bit..

Pilz-E wrote:If you're interested in selling either the s/c kit or the turbo....or both let me know!

ahah well i wana really try and keep both as i still have part to put on it and i am interested to see what hp i get when its all done and what not... so i will see... but if i did have to sell it all (part it out) i wouldn't mind selling the entire engine/ computer / trany which are all built up around this set up so it would be a drop in and go twin charge set up for some one else to enjoy .. ahah you guys really have no idea how fun this is.. even the tuner (who has done a few turbo jbodys) said he LOVED! driving it around on the street when he was testing it...

I would have bought that car back. You could have fixed that. is a stock 03 worth the ... ~10 grand you stuck into the engine alone?
