i've used both manual and electronic.. a good electronic boost controll is by far the way to go, spend the extra money. the control and abilitly to change boost at anytime is great.

Theres really no point in an electronic boost controller if you're running something like hptuners, which doesn't allow the user to tune all the way up to, and including each boost level (such as management for others such as hondas). Example: if you're running 20psi on your high boost setting and running off the wastegate at [say] 9psi on your low boost setting, the car is going to be rediculously rich when on the low boost setting, as all it knows it add fuel/pull timing for 20psi. I would just stick to a cheapy manual unit Dave. If you don't want to drive it hard on your high boost level all the time, just pedal the throttle. PS, you get that turbo manifold yet?

Pete... you know I've worked that problem out, now. It works flawlessly.

To the OP... I have used both a manual and an electronic... and I have to say there is a big difference in how the two function.

Aside from the obvious "get out of the car to turn the dial" aspect of the MBC vs. the in-cabin comfort of the EBC... there are electronic settings on a EBC that the MBC doesn't come close to touching.

My profec lets me adjust gain (how fast boost comes on), max boost... it's also a very accurate boost controller... it ensures (when set up right) i have no spikes. I turned it off and hit the go-pedal one day and I have to say spoolup was a lot slower without it on... it helps quite a lot.

Thats my take. I wouldn't switch back given the choice.

Also, the high boost/low boost button in my steering wheel rules.

Actually, thats not true. The Timing and Fuel tables on a 2 bar setup are MAP based, and map has readings all the way to 210 KPA, so you can tune it at ALL boost levels. This is different if you are working on a 1 bar setup, but the timing will still be boost dependant.

I love my electronic controller.

I have Blitz EBC and I love it. I would go EBC for sure. I guess it depends on if you want to change you boost more often. If you have set for 10 PSI and plan on leaving it there then I would go with a MBC, but that is what I like the most about the EBC. I can turn it off and run stock boost or one of my 4 settings. With the turn of a knob I can go from stock boost - 12psi - 15psi - 18psi and I don't have the fuel set up yet for any higher.

Ive never physically looked at a MBC but is there something on there that says what psi your at? Or do you just have to get back in the car and just keep reading the gauge to see what boost your at?

YOu have to turn it, then go boosting to see how far up it went, different wastegates react differently to different types of MBC's, so there is no boost reading or no set Y PSI = X amount of turns. This is the same for most EBC's as well, my Profec reads in percentage, which is the percentage capacity of the turbo.

i have my turbo xs dual stage maual forsale. works good when my waste gate was at 8psi and i wanted to go to 10 or so. when i set it to 15 it started to spike more. it would hit 18-20 a few times. i bought a greddy profec s now. havent installed it yet due to the wet roads and not really needeing it.

I prefer to go with a mbc myself for the reason its not as easily changed as the electronic. Reason being that if you have a dual stage setup on a mbc you can't go any higher on your second stage than is already preset. That way you can't turn up the boost past a preset limit that you've already tuned for. Its real easy to turn a knob on an electronic unit if you need some extra boost, but if you haven't already tuned for that extra boost your going into uncharted territory.

What I mean is if your using an electroic unit you could have a low setting of 6psi a high psi setting of lets say 12psi. but if you wanted to you could turn a knob and run 16psi with just a turn. If you have self control thats not an issue. I just know I don't, so I chose a dual stage MBC

I have a regulator style MBC mounted in the glovebox. when hooked up properly to the external wastegate this setup works flawlessly even with a fair amount of extra vac line needed to mount it inside the car. correct being you hook this style mbc to the reference port on the top of the wastegate and straight line to the other port. works great!
