turbo quad 4 in chevette

Got chevette for free the other day.... now tossing the idea of a turbo 2.4 swap. Mantapart.com makes a bell housing adapter. Is it true that the early 2.3 timing chain has mechanical tensioners on the timing chain and are these tensioners less likely to fail? If so can you swap the tensioner and early double roller timing chain into later 2.4 block? Also will the late 80's early 90's 2.3 long tube intake manifold bolt up to later 2.4 head? Also does anybody know about http://www.jtuners.com/ turbo kits? Are they any good? What will need to be done to make around 300 hp other than a ton of boost? At what point will I be blowing rods? I have about five 2.4 blocks around so I do plan on killing a few but......

The old mechanical tensioner is almost bullet proof. I never broke one or heard of people braking them. The shoe can brake when you don<t know how to take it off but that's all. It can't back up once it's locked.

Don't buy from Mantapart.

The long tube manifold you are talking about is probably the 88-89 style Lo manifold witch doesn't flow for *******.

Chevettes are fun! you can use that bellhousing to bolt that engine to the trans but it wont help you bolt that engine into a car. you will also need a custom intake if you dont want the throttle body facing the wrong way. you could run a 2.4 and thatl help with the throttle body problem but still wont help with the mounts seeing how the block is not setup for motor mounts on both sides of it in a rwd app. if you want to run a gm 4 banger you could use a 2200 from an s10. other easy engines to get in there is the 2.8 - 3.4 60 deg. you can even get a 3800 or 350 in there if you try hard enough. i also have a chevette and i decided to go with a nissan vg30 since it was light, compact, and takes a ton of boost to kill.

good luck with your vette!

i know this is kinda outta place here but a much better 4cyl for that car would be a 2.3 turbo ford

Why would you swap in another 4 banger? There are a @!#$load of sites that deal with sticking 350s and @!#$ in those chevettes. In high school we did a cadillac 472 because we saw it in hot rod magazine...cheap thrills cheap thrills. I miss those days.
