I am starting my turbo project on my 99 LD9. Would it even be worth replacing the rod and main bearings with some stronger clevite 77's since the LD9 is prone to rod bearing problems? and another question, would it be beneficial and increase reliability to replace the head gasket with one of those thicker gaskets to reduce compression? any help is appreciated.
Some research will show that the LD9 is not prone to bearing failure, but a lack of oiling. If your willing to swap bearings why not build a complete motor? Invest in oil pressure and oil temp gaiges as well.

FYI a thicker head gasket isn't the way to go for reducing compression. It decrases chamber turbulence and will cause knocking, incomplete combustion and hot spots in your combustion chamber. Best change over to low compression pistons.

I second both! If you are taking the time and spending the money, do it ALL and get it done rite.

I was just thinkin since i am dropping the oil pan to tap it i could replace these bearings pretty easily and inexpensively for a bit of added reliability, and my bad bout the bearing "problem" cuz i myself as well as many other LD9 owners have spun rod bearings so yea
thanks for the help everyone.

You will see once you drop the pan replacing the bearings is not just a easy thing to do. You have a balanced shaft set-up in the way of 2-3 of the rods. MANY people on this site have spun rod bearings. I would beat money that most were due to lack of oil (not even because of the oiling system), but lack of maintance on the car and abuse.

ok didnt know that, thanks john for all your help man. Im just tryin to hit every possible weakness i can to maintain as much reliability as i can
