Forged pistons and deglaze

Well im going with stock bore pistons, but weisco forged.... So should i still have the block taken to a machine shop?? I was hoping i can just deglaze and throw them in there but if i have to have it machined then ill suck it up and do it....

I'd go a minumum of .020" over bore pistons and have the block machine to make sure the cylider walls are perfect.

I would bet money the cylinder is more worn at the top than the bottom. I would bore it .020 over. I would not cheap out on that. It is less than 100 dollars have it bored out. I mean it is just like changing the piston and not the rings. Do you want a fresh engine or a half ass rebuild.

Overbore it is.... Damn this thing is gunna be mean lol.

Also, for those who have pulled the motor can you do it without yankin the trans with it?? I mean its not a problem for me to do the work im just doin it on the ground so leavin the trans in would be nice. Either way i gotta replace the clutch when i do al this.... Man here comes the debt

yes

if you just throw new pistons and rings in the largest issue aside from everything that has been said, is that the cylinder walls are already smooth, so the new rings take much longer to break in and will dramatically shorten the life of your engine... not only that but because they take so long to break in the rings over heat and in some cases get brittle and break... we went over that in high school the hard way

A couple guys have left the tranny in the car, but for the time that it takes to wire that bad boy up.. you might as well take the tranny out the bottom. I would recommend marking the hood hinges and taking the hood off though... and buy a nice set of fender covers, you will thank me when you see how much room you gain, and your fenders don't have dings from belt buckles, zippers, ratchets and alike.

5spd is harder to leave the trans in with

auto is very easy

Actually 5spd is easy to leave the tranny in when removing the engine. Done it quite a few times - all you have to do is figure out the little tricks. Loosening a tranny mount and supporting the tranny and tilting it with the engine with the crank pulley removed on the other side = pretty simple removal....

Not too bad at all.
